...I'm happy, but I HATE EARTHQUAKES!!
...yeah.
LA trip, cut for length~
Saturday:
one good thing about having shorter hair is how much easier it is to curl*_* I put my hair up in my sticks, and when I took them down, I saw how curly my hair was, so I had Kristy pull it back in pigtails.
yes, that's right. I had my hair in pigtails. and it was cute, so shush! (the cab driver thought I was like 16 or 17, rofl) no pics of it cause I didn't really think about it at first, and then I had planned on leaving it up until I got to LA, but it started to fall out, so I just took them down:\
at the airport, things started going a bit downhill:\
before this, I had only flown once, so I didn't know that there was a check-in baggage fee. my already small budget went down even further:S I started out having 300, but after my haircut (which was sorely needed), other assorted needs/travel necessities , the 6flags ticket and then the check in fee, I was broke. I was lucky I had the money for the bus ride to the hotel we were staying in:S so yeah...not fun there:\ it ruined a lot of our plans:(
but anyway, the flight itself wasn't so bad. it was annoying cause every time I started to relax about being a couple hundred miles over the ground, we'd hit a lil rough spot and I'd be right back to holding onto the armrests all white knuckled and religious x_x the inflight movie was "Up in the Air" with George Clooney...not bad. kinda boring at parts, but the twist REALLY caught me off guard.
landed, met up with Jac (who is fucking awesome, btw, lol), got my luggage, caught our bus, and off to the hotel~ (Union Station is pretty, btw. parts of it anyway:P) we skipped our plans to go out that night since we didn't know the area and it was already midnight. also COLD for cali >.<
stayed up pretty much all night playing card games and watching tv. I taught her rummy and phase 10. she won phase 10, and she did VERY well for a rummy beginner, lol. then bed:P
Sunday
I forget what time it was that Jac managed to drag my ass out of bed, but we got up, ate lunch at a corner chinese food place (I loved it:X), wandered around Chinatown, bought a reversible kimono-ish bathrobe...black on one side with a red/orange dragon on the back, and silver on the other with a slightly darker silver dragon:P it was 18, but he gave it to me for 15. (Jac said later that I looked like the wife/girlfriend of a chinese mafia guy or something, cause I had my hair up in my chopsticks, lol.)
I should've let Jac do the talking with the guy...she suggested quietly to try and get him to do 2 for 24$, but I didn't understand what she was talking about, and he heard me, so um....me!fail -_-;;
missed the bus to Santa Monica, so we caught the one to Little Tokyo instead. that was kinda fun, wandering around and looking at stuff. it was getting dark when we headed back to our bus, so when we got back to our neighbourhood, we grabbed more chinese food and went to our room. we ended up doing the same thing we did the night before, lol. watched tv, played cards and talked. decided to cancel the 6flags plan and went to santa monica instead.
Monday
the trip TO santa monica was good...I saw the Hollywood sign~it was far away, but it was close enough I could read it:P
Jac and I passed the time talking about the difference in our public transportation lines, lol.
walked around, ended up spending what had to be at LEAST an hour talking to this one lady and this guy...it was kinda fun? she's Muslim and from Africa...like, old school, kinda:X she doesn't even know for sure when her birthday is cause she was born at home. We did some figuring up, and we THINK she was born in November or December, lol. no idea of the year though:P
walked around on the beach, I rolled up my pants and actually walked in the water a lil bit...it was too cold to do that for too long though, lol. watched the sun mostly set. the sight I was hoping to see was kinda blocked by the mountains, but it was still pretty. (OH! btw...okay, so I'm used to mountains in like Arkansas and western maryland, but this was the first time I had seen mountains WITH SNOW ON THEM! *_* *ish still flailing*)
grabbed a bus to get back home, and it turned out we picked the one that wouldn't get us back home for probably HOURS. it had like a MILLION stops, I swear, so Jac dragged me off at one of the stops, and we took the subway.
first time ever riding on a subway x_x I spent the entire time thinking "shitshitshit...if there's an earthquake now, we're WAY underground....I DUN WANNA BE HERE ;_; ....WHY IS THE TRAIN SHAKING?!"
other than the paranoid!me, it was fun. did the same thing we did every night Pinky, try to take over the world~!...watched tv, played games. I took something to help me sleep though cause Bianca was coming to visit us in the morning for breakfast+dropping me off at the airport.
by the time the meds finally started to kick in, it was like 3:45 or so, so we started getting ready for bed. around 4am, Jac was reading in her bed, and I was getting my mp3 player+headphones sorted out, and all of a sudden, I felt the bed shake a lil.
I thought it was just me, but then it did it again, a lil harder. I looked over at Jac, she looked at me, and that was when we realized it wasn't just our imagination, something WAS happening. we both jumped up and ran for the door. I actually got knocked back down on the bed, cause when I put my foot down to run, the ground went sideways and I lost my balance:S
the quake was over by the time we got out the room, but we headed down the stairs anyway. since we didn't know if it was just a precursor, or if it was really even over, I told Jac to hold onto the rail and if it started again, to crouch down so it'd be harder to get knocked over.
we THOUGHT the stairs led to the lobby, like most hotels, but it led outside instead. so, barefoot, in sleep clothes, no jackets or anything, we power walked around to the front lobby, where we were greeted with (basically) "...what on earth are you doing there? o.O" they hadn't felt ANYTHING.
then, while were talking to them, I was gesturing with my hands and my cellphone went flying:S it is now semi-broke. the dialpad works, but the screen just shows up as white. so I can't go through my address book to call anyone or check my text message or ANYTHING >.<*
when we got back upstairs, Jac and I stayed up looking at the earthquake news online. we were both a lil rattled (no pun intended), so Jac was like "...I'm sleeping in your bed!" that didn't work out too well though XD;; everytime one of us moved, and the bed moved, we'd be like: "*freeze*...*wait*...okay, it was just us."
since my phone was broke, I couldn't call sis to let her know it was nothing (I figured she'd freak out, even if it was just a 4:P), so I sent a direct message to my mom on twitter. she has it set up like I do where you get a text message if you get a dm. mom said she'd tell them we were okay, and Jac and I finally decided to try and get some sleep.
cue the phone ringing, lol. I got like...3 phone calls I think...no wait, 2...Dave and then sis. so between those and being WIDE awake after the quake, I don't think either of us fell asleep til after 7am. then we had to get up at 10, lol.
Tuesday
Bianca showed up, we went to eat and then the airport. I ended up missing my flight cause I didn't know they had a 45minute cut off time if you're checking in baggage. I got there at 3:15pm, but my flight was at 3:45pm:\ LUCKILY, they had a standby boarding at 5:55, so they put me on there with no fee~
while I was waiting for boarding time, I went back out and called Bianca (her and Jac were circling the airport in case I was too late). they came, picked me up, and we went to...I think it was Carl's Junior? I forget for sure, but we went and got something to drink and talked. Bianca and Jac kept trying to sneak pics >.<* I HATE having my pic took:(
anyway, went back to the airport, got checked in and everything else. The last guy that got voted off of American Idol (Alex Lambert) was on the flight with us. When we landed in Texas, the pilot or one of the air steward people welcomed him home over the intercom. got out of the plane, walked down the airchute thingy (whatever they're called), and when we came out, there were a bunch of airline people standing around with cameras/camera phones waiting to take pics of the guy. A security guard on one of those golfcart things was waiting for him too.
down the escalator, and MORE people waiting for him. I think it was mostly family members...they had balloons and a "welcome home Alex!" sign.
got a cab ride home...the guy pulled over and had to look at a map, and he left the meter running *snarls*. if he had turned it off, the ride would've been like 3-5$ cheaper >.<
got home, found out that Kristy and Brian had tossed out the mattress I had been using (the people that lived here before left it, so it was kinda old, but it was soooo comfy ;_;), and replaced it with a futon.
fyi: I don't LIKE futons. the mattresses are never thick/soft enough for me:( so I'm stuck with a bed I don't like:\
but at least the trip was fun ~♥~
things that would've made this trip better:
chapstick
more money
more time
less earthquake
less cameras to dodge:P
oh oh oh, and Jac is double awesome, rofl...she brought me snacks and henna and a stuffed panda with an evil looking smile XD and she was able to put up with me the entire trip...she should get an award for that alone:P
