I just love mornings in the office when no one is around. It gives me time to get work done and still have time to do silly things like update my Live Journal page. This week was full of crazy moments and lots of exhaustion. The Disney show at work yesterday was amazing, mostly thanks to Evan who stepped up to the plate to be our piano player. The residents are still raving over things.
I performed in a number of songs and got paid to do so. I had someone tell me you're only a professional if you get paid to perform. I wonder if that counts...Singing Part of Your World has always had a special place in my heart. The Little Mermaid is still my mom's favorite Disney movie, and I can recall singing it in front of my family when I was little and beaming at how happy it made her. Over the years the song and the movie have become almost sacred for many reasons. My mom stood in the back yesterday listening to me and smiling like she did when I was a kid, and it was one of those moments you never forget.
In other news, in two weeks there will be a new kitten in the house that Phil can call his very own. It was supposed to be a birthday surprise but the woman who has the kittens needs to find them homes a lot faster than we anticipated. I'm really looking forward to having a kitten in the house again. They bring all sorts of adventure into your life.
September is right around the corner, and is already ripe with possibilities:
- The sidewalk sale is on the 1st Saturday after Labor Day (which I believe is on the 6th?)It's always amusing to walk around town and see people you won't get to see again until the next sidewalk sale. For added fun this year, Phil and I will get the last batch of reactions when people find out we're together. Most people from High School pegged us as a pretty unlikely match, so their faces never fail to add humor to the day.
- I start class to get my director certification on the 18th which goes beyond amazing. I am ready to get back in a class room again and study, study, study! Barnes & Noble has everything an office supply geek could ever want to be totally happy. I'm going to have the coolest notebooks ever. The best part about going back to school when you already work full time? It's being able to splurge on supplies that are not coming out of a student budget! It will also mean a better pay scale once I pass the test so I've decided to actively look into a new car. Yay!
- The first day of Autumn is practically in our backyards!!!! The mornings smell different and the trees in my neighbors yard have already started to change. That brisk fall air needs to hurry up, because I am totally ready to use my slow cooker.
The next adventurous day for the Renaissance Faire is Sunday, because opening weekend reminded me that Sunday is the best time to go and avoid being trampled. So far it's me, Phil, Evan, Phil's Cousin and his girlfriend that are definite. If anyone cares to jump on the bandwagon let me know so we can make arrangements. I'm planning on doing breakfast at the house before we go so we're not starving on our trip up (or down...or over...my sense of direction is dreadful). A good solid number will give me an idea for menu planning. I will neither confirm nor deny the possible making of Phil's Dutch Baby Pancakes.
A quick side note on October...I checked around for venues to host the masquerade and every hall worth throwing it at is either booked or massively over priced because October starts the party season apparently. Fear not though, I have heard that there is a masquerade ball somewhere within the area towards the end of October that we could all look into. For those of you adventurous enough, the Good & Bad Faerie Masquerades are full masquerade events that just happen to have a fantasy theme.
OK enough jibber jabber....I need to get to work!
