After enjoying a particularly quiet week-end, I got a call that my youngest son had been in an auto accident in Tampa, which is over 3 hours away from our home. He lives in Gainesville and was there visiting a friend.
Although he is fine and the accident was in no way his fault, it shook me to the core. Those are the phone calls that you NEVER want to receive. I couldn't focus or function until he called me back to let me know he was back at his friend's home as was the car. I phoned our insurance company to get the ball rolling re: repairs, rental car, etc.
I couldn't sleep last night. Oldest son was on the road as well headed to a work conference in Tallahassee, over 5 hours away. He did phone to say he made it fine and was safely tucked into his hotel room. We got a good rate for a rental for youngest son as his car will likely take 2 weeks to repair. All of the collision centers in Tampa are jammed up for some reason.
The worst part is that while the driver that was ticketed and caused the accident has insurance, we have to fork over a $500 deductible and the fees for the rental. These will be reimbursed by her insurance company but it's a lot to come up with in a short amount of time. Her insurance company is also one that I've never heard of and isn't a major name in the insurance world. My State Farm agent advised us to go ahead and file the claim with State Farm in order to speed up the process. We pay a hefty premium for our auto insurance but they are so helpful and easy to deal with. It's worth every penny.
So, today I am being grateful that I am not in Tampa visiting my son in the hospital. I am trying to get back to my calm center so that my stomach is not in knots much longer. I'v
