orientation...

Well, today I had orientation at UWM. It was really weird to see familiar faces from West Bend- I wasn't expecting it at all.
Basically the day was a waste of time, one in which none of us could leave early because they took attendance three times. I think I made a couple new acquaintences...however you spell that...so that took away my nervousness a little. We had to sit around and listen to speeches the whole day and participate in silly little ice breakers and get to know each other games and talked about alcohol and sexual assault. Boy, was it a swell time (*rolls eyes*). But, I guess having to go today is better than skipping it and being rescheduled for next Wedneday night or something from 4-9 pm...ick. I'm glad it's done and overwith.
After my group finally convinced our "Campus Ambassador" to let us leave early, I met up with Amanda again to look for classes and so I could buy books. I had to buy FIVE books for my English class and two for Sociology, but that means I'm halfway done and it was only $110.14, so it could definitely be worse. Plus, now I know where all my classes are, so I won't get lost, and I'm excited. Amanda and I are car pooling the first day just to be sure about busses and such.
I think I'm glad I'm not living in the dorms. It would be fun and exciting I'm sure, but I'm not into the whole drinking thing AT ALL. I know people would think I'm just prissy and stuck up or a chicken, and I probably wouldn't be in the mood to tell them that my dad's an alcoholic and that's why I have no interest in drinking. In fact, listening to people in my orientation group today just irritated me because they all brag about parties and drinking and all I can think is "What do you want a cookie?" If my friends drink and they tell me about it, I try not to get angry, because not everyone is me. But the truth is I really can't stand drinking, and it absolutely disgusts me to listen to people brag about it, because getting wasted is nothing to brag about.
Anywho, in addition to that, I guess the amount of people who wanted to live in the dorms doubles between last year and this year, not to mention last year's class was apparently 3700 people and mine is 4200. Big difference. The dorms just seem so overcrowded and I heard a lot of complaints about the showers and other issues...I think I like my house.
Well, I'm exhausted, so I think I'm just going to sit here and relax. I hope everyone is doing well. =)
