TV on DVD

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I love TV Box Sets. Kim and I are always watching them. Right now, we're working our way through the third season of The West Wing, and I'm watching Greg the Bunny (not technically a box set) and Batman: The Animated Series (Kim's not interested in either). Watching your favourite shows on DVD is such a great way to go: digital quality (sooooo important for people like us with hi definition TVs), no commercials, no waiting for next week's episode.

The only problem with watching them as often as we do is that it has shortened our attention spans, making watching movies difficult. When we do sit down to watch a movie, they feel so long. We're used to stories being told in 42 minute spreads. Even though we'll usually watch 3, 4, or even 5 or more episodes in a row, sitting down for a 2 hour, or even an hour and a half movie, feels sooo long. The pacing is completely different. TV's pacing is heightened even more because they usually rise and fall with commercial breaks.

We're only a third of the way through The West Wing. Hopefully, we'll find time to watch a lot of it this weekend, because the final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer comes out next week. It'll be so tough to not watch it as soon as we get it, but we like to stick to one show start to finish. After Buffy, there's no other shows coming on the horizon to pick up. I've heard that Season Three of ER is coming out in December, but even if it does we'll wait until after Christmas to pick it up (that is, of course, if no one gets it for us). Soon, we won't have that many shows to buy. After Buffy, the final seasons of Angel, Felicity, and Roswell will be out. Then the only shows that we buy that will still come out are ER and The West Wing, which are still on TV. We've yet to get Sports Night, but my mom told me that she ordered it for me for Christmas (she was going to get it for my birthday, but had to special order it for me). It's cool. I'd still like to borrow Billy's Smallville Season One and Firefly. Then maybe my sister's seasons of 24 (we've never seen an episode). We'd also like to buy our own copies of Alias (we borried them from my sister), but maybe after season four is out, so we can watch them over again when they are less fresh in our minds.

The only other show that we like that we would consider buying is Scrubs, but that hasn't come out on DVD yet. Normally, I wouldn't buy comedies, but we just started watching Scrubs last season, so I'd like to catch it from the beginning. After that, we might just take wild stabs at show we might like, such as Tru Calling or Freeks and Geeks. We can't stop. We're addicted.
