Arrow; Stephen Amell is no Jensen Ackles...
... or Jared Padalecki for that matter.
I've recently gotten through season 1 of Arrow. Lots to like. Amell is easy on the eyes, they've got an interesting mythology and arc going and some good supporting characters.
Yet, despite my waning interest in Supernatural, I actually realised how good we've had it for so long whilst I watched Arrow. Throughout season , the show will cut to Oliver's face for a 'dramatic' reaction....except Amell can't emote and he just stares. Seriously... *cut to Oliver's face.....zoom in with dramatic music...Nothing.*
I keep having to remind myself that only Jensen Ackles is Jensen Ackles and I shouldn't expect his level of acting from every CW pretty boy. But at the moment, Amell is making Jared look good. Even he learnt to use his face beyond the 'puppy dog Sam' expression. I'm hoping that Amell can get more nuance as he learns and that he wasn't just cast for his abs. There were a few promising signs towards the back end of the season.
Still, two facts: I'm going to tune in for season 2 of Arrow and in the last season of Supernatural there wasn't a single episode I rewatched. Remember the good old days when a ripper episode would come and you could hardly wait for it to finish so you could rewatch it?
