My Plans

Dear Journal,

My dad thought that I had nothing to do yesterday, so he kept planning out things to do. However, I was able to get him to push those off until today. See, I did have plans. They may not have gone exactly how I hoped, but I had plans and I was going to finish them.

Plan 1: Go to Game Crazy and Hollywood Video during their big liquidation sale and buy up things that I still would like.
Status: Partial FAIL.

See, I wanted to go by bike. I’m flabby, lazy and out of shape from the entire nothing that I normally do in the day. My brother wanted to go with me, so I said okay. First he had to go to the bank and the weather didn’t look like it was going to be friendly. We shopped around and I bought 3 players guides (Blue Dragon, Fire Emblem, and BioShock 2: Special Edition), 2 games (BioShock 2 and Watchmen), and a season of a TV series (3rd Rock from the Sun). Normally costing about $270, I got all of that for about $100. The fail part was the art of leaving. When we left, it was starting to rain and we were biking. My brother complained the entire time where I was enjoying myself. However, when I got home, we found the books and games a little wet. Damn.

Plan 2: Get a haircut.
Status: SUCCESS.

I wanted to go get a haircut. When I got home via bike, I almost immediately jumped in my car and headed to the salon. I normally go to a place called “Blondie’s” off of Hwy-50. The first thing that I noticed, and laughed about to myself, was the new hairdresser that they got. Everyone that works there is either a natural blonde or dyed blonde…except for her. It’s like seeing a white guy in a crowd for a Chris Rock special. Anyway, my hair is far shorter now (not the back, that only lost an inch). I feel lighter and I don’t have those annoying bits of hair going into my ears or over my eyes anymore.

Plan 3: Clean my room.
Status: Partial FAIL.

I was going to pick up my room yesterday, but I was out of the house more than in it yesterday. When I finally had the time to sit in my room, my dad wanted to watch another episode of Leverage. I said sure and we were going to watch it at 4:30. My dad and brother came in and almost immediately after my brother came in, his OCD brain found 5 things that he had to do. That cost us about 20 minutes where we were just sitting around doing nothing waiting for him to do such things as, hang-up his sweatshirt, wash his hands, put away his video games, etc. Now this wouldn’t bother me so much if he hadn’t been sitting on his butt creating a character in his wrestling game for 4 hours prior to this point. There was a colossal gap of time that he could have done all of these things to do. And he knew that we were starting at 4:30. I did, however, clean up parts of my room. If I hadn’t cleaned up what I did, no one would have been able to sit in there.

Plan 4: Cook for the family
Status: Partial SUCCESS.

Slightly out of order, but when I got home from the salon, I ran into the house, printed off the recipe that my girlfriend e-mailed me for a meal. I printed it off as quickly as I could (saved to my jumpdrive and run out to the computer with a printer because my brother was using the internet for his Xbox with the aforementioned 4 hour gaming sessions), and ran back out to my car to meet my dad at the store. He offered to buy me all of the ingredients that I needed. He was more surprised that I was willing to cook, and I think that’s why he was game to do it. My mom is the only one who knows how to cook and I have been trying to learn. But he bought me all I needed. I thank him for that.

Fast forwarding to about 10 minutes left in Leverage, my mom called that they were by Great America and heading home. After the episode, I went out into the kitchen to start. I chopped up the onions alright, but then I found that the pork that we got, while perfect in size, was also not boneless. That took me more time that I had anticipated, but I worked with it the best that I could. During the process, I talked to my girlfriend a couple of times. I get nerve racked on the inside when I’m doing something new like this but act calm and collected on the outside. Anytime I had a question, she answered though. I was afraid that I was just going to annoy her though. Anyway, the food finished up 30 minutes later than I had told people, but that was from my own inexperience with the meal and the bones in the meat. Not that bad though. The only downside was my sister complaining every 30 seconds about how hungry she was and my dad doing the same only every other minute. My mom, thankfully, kept telling them that a cook cannot be rushed and that the food will taste delicious if they just gave me the time to finish.

The food was excellent. I was rationalizing every bit of the recipe and was able to explain it to the questions that my dad asked me. My brother had two helpings, my mom and dad had one and a half, while my sister and I had one. We had leftovers of one portion. My mom said that she normally has trouble with the pork, but I cooked it very tender and was able to eat it no problem. She was happy she didn’t have to cook for once and even happier with the meal. My dad really enjoyed it commenting on how tasty the oranges went with this meal and was more impressed when he saw the nutritional facts, because he’s not used to me saying let’s eat something healthy. My brother had two servings, said it was good and then dropped it. I expected nothing less as the boy can’t show affection for something too much as he thinks that that makes him look like a sissy. My sister, however, went on and on about how mom made something like this before and that it was nothing new. Then she said she wasn’t feeling well and blamed it on the pork (which she gave up after reading “The Jungle”). Oh Well.

Plan 5: Play Ghostbusters for my Xbox.
Status: FAIL.

I don’t know what it is, but I think that the disc is scratched up. I bought it not too long ago from a GameStop in St. Paul, but hadn’t tried playing it until now. I’m going to try the easy way, the more challenging way, and the hard way today to try to get my disc to work. That’s the game that I’m the most excited about. But that’ll be in my plans today!

FINALLY

After all of that, I went to bed. It was a good sleep although the dream had to do with me saving my girlfriend from the clutches of an abusive boyfriend. I succeeded, but it was an interesting adventure that I’ve forgotten most about.
