As predicted, I awoke on Friday to freezing rain. I went back to sleep until 10 and left at 10:30 an hour after the rain had stopped. I felt extremely justified as I passed several cars in the embankments with white shirts flapping from the window. Poor bastards.

There was a noon lecture for the residents on the differential diagnoses of neck masses by various imaging modalities. From 1-3 I was in the student small group lecture on neuroimaging. Dr. Smirnatopalous is awesome. One of those docs who doesn't just know a ton of stuff, but is also questioning whether it is correct and can cite the experiments which "prove" facts and why he doesn't like them.

It took forever to get home. Mom promised to be at Paul's at 6:30, so I was able to get 600 calories in at mom's condo's little gym. Paul's was nice. Ashley (20) was back, and Emma (?13) and Hallie (?10) were over as well. Amy and Kevin came over too. I gave Uncle Paul the jokingly requested bottle of Bourbon for getting Alex moved to a Tuesday flight after the cancellation on Monday had knocked her into Wednesday. Hallie and Brooke did a weird "Tango" performance for which they gathered everybody, but they're ten and silly.

Afterwards I did a little bit of duolingo talked to Alex for 45-50 min and went to bed really.

Today I got up around 9. I spent a lot of the morning working through the flashcards I've mad of the innervation of lower extremity muscles and playing around with the settings on my flashcard app. I've got it set on the spaced repetition, which keeps bringing stuff up at scheduled intervals, so that I hope that works out. I did only 10 min of duolingo. Mom went to Brooke's basketball game at 10. When she came back she picked me up and we met Kevin at Autozone where he borrowed their OBD2 reader to read out what the onboard computer thinks is wrong with mom's CRV. Transmission something and Emission something. We have to codes, but Kevin loves cars and he's going to look them up.

Mom & I got a Hot'N'Ready from Little Caesars. For $5 that is a decent little pizza. We watched the end to the Three Amigos on television. That sweater joke kills me. Afterwards I went to the gym and between the bike and the treadmill on an incline and the treadmill running I hit 1,000 calories. Mom left for Ashley's birthday dinner, but I really just wanted to chill.

I've been going through my computer with the terabyte drive I borrowed from Kevin, transferring what files I can open which aren't corrupted onto the external hard drive. Kevin assures me that I don't have to worry about a worm getting onto the drive. Fortunately it seems that my pictures were among the few things which did not vanish. There is decent continuity all the way back to 2008. I...wonder what happened to the stuff before then. Maybe I never brought it over from the Dell. I remember SamO once saying that everybody thinks that digitization will be the panacea for archives, but really its the most vulnerable medium yet. Now that I think about it those pics should be burned onto a disk at the top of my hallway closet in LA. Yeah, that's where they are. Ok, good.

Anyway, I've been transferring those files for hours with Repo! The Genetic Opera (which mom got me for Christmas) playing in the background. After several hours including the second half of Wild Wild West I have become both happy that the pics are there and frustrated with the effort this is taking. Since I never actually installed Microsoft Office, just the free stuff, I can only open documents by opening the Trial version and then going to File -> Open and opening documents internally. Since I'm trying to open every document/pdf/jpeg to make sure they're not going to convey the corruption into my new OS, this is taking for FUCKING EVER.

Maybe I don't even need to do it.

Goddamned link from my cousin's email account in my inbox. I didn't open it, I typed in the URL, because I thought that would make the difference. Apparently not.
