I listen to some new music...
After what seemed like months, Justin Bieber has finally stopped trending on twitter... oh wait, it didn't seem like months, it was months. Maintaining my position slightly behind what's current in pop culture, I decided that now all those screaming pre-tweens are moving off my lawn, I should have a listen to his music and see what the fuss was about.
"How are you going to do that without paying for it?" the beloved wondered.
"Youtube," I said. "God bless the internet."
This morning, I watched three of his music videos. (Fine. Two and a half; I started feeling a bit like a creepy old lady.) It's not hard to see what the attraction is. He's a completely non threatening cutie for kids just discovering their sexuality. He can both sing and dance and if his style of singing doesn't appeal to everyone, well, whose does? I like southern rock. Many don't. Also, those of us who once had posters of Donny Osmond (or a young Michael Jackson or any of a dozen interchangeable boy bands) on our bedroom wall, haven't got a critical leg to stand on.
Kid's got amazing hair, a great smile, and from some angles looks like a young Hilary Swank. Okay, that last point may turn out to not be such a good thing but I think I may check on him again in a few years. After all, Justin Timberlake got tolerable.
But sweetie, pull up your damned pants.
