The Dark Knight

If Jonathon and Christopher Nolan don't get a 'best original screenplay' nomination for The Dark Knight, I'm going to be very, very annoyed.  Not that the Academy will care but still...

Dark Knight and Polaris cali5 July 20 2008, 18:04:30 UTC
I saw The Dark Knight yesterday and loved it. Great casting (as always) of Bale, Ledger and Eckhart. Heath Ledger was amazing as The Joker.

On another note, it was great meeting you at Polaris! I hope I didn't talk your ear off at the Blast Off Party (and for the rest of the weekend whenever I saw you!). Hurrah for surviving the Polaris Inferno of 2008 (3 times). I hope it doesn't scare you off from joining us again sometime.

Speaking of original screenplays -- I have everything crossed that some smart network (accent on smart) will pick up the Smoke series and make a wonderful show -- mainly because I love those books and characters.

And P.S., love your new photo/icon!

There's nothing like going down then back up twelve flights of stairs to make you not care about blowing off your run. *g*

And I don't think it's possible to talk my ear off although I've talked a few off in my time.

Also, any icon that lets me look at Dean Winchester is a win in my book. ;)

Well there is a chance. On the other hand Batman himself and Harvey Dent seem to be so wooden-stiff and flat, especially next to Joker. Do you really think the Academy will allow movie where only one leading character is very good to get an original screenplay nomination (or adaptation, if they get overly neatpicking and point that three graphical novels were used as a base)?

The trick with screenplay noms is that you have to ignore the acting and concentrate solely on story -- which means, to a certain extent you can also ignore the dialogue which hopefully means they can ignore that somewhat clunky final VO.

I'd settle happily for best adapted if they decide enough of the graphic novels were used.

I agree about the best adapted case. After all, they weren't entirely original about the characters and some events.
If the Academy gave Oscars to the Titanic, the Dark Knight certainly deserves some.

*pouts*

I want to see this, but I don't want the crowds. THe crowds are... discouraging...

We got there about forty minutes early and were still sitting on the side. Which in our small city is unheard of. So yeah, I hear you about the crowds...

I'm figuring on waiting a couple of weeks for the crowds to thin out myself, and resigning myself to being pelted by spoilers from all quarters as well in the meantime. Doesn't seem to affect my enjoyment where good movies are concerned, after all.

Wow!!! For premieres in my area (and pretty much our whole county), you have to get there a MINIMUM of like two hours beforehand, and buying tickets in advance? GREAT idea let me tell you...

It sold out this weekend in Nashville, so I'm going to try to see it one weeknight this week.

It was pretty close to selling out up here last night and I can't remember ANYTHING ever doing that in this town.

I'll be annoyed, too but the cynic in me isn't expecting much from whomever these Academy types are. Just look at the lack of Emmy nods for The Wire or Battlestar Galactica.

Sadly, I think you may well be right.

Look at Leonard Maltin quoted as practically promising that Ledger will get nowhere near any Academy nomination for this film, for example.
