Anime Expo 2009!

Jul 17, 2009 12:16

I was really excited to be able to attend AX this year, since I didn't think I was going to be able to due to budget, etc. But then Curtis and I house-sat for some relatives and they paid us (totally not necessary but they insisted) so we were able to go!

The week beforehand I was working like a mad sweatshop lady getting 3 costumes completely done for me, Curtis, and our friend Robbie who we have connived into becoming an anime fan AND cosplayer! And I did it! However, at 3AM the day before the con, I went to hem my dress (last thing to do) and I totally messed it up by cutting off too much. I then proceeded to have a breakdown b/c it looked so good before I ruined it. But I decided to wear it anyways, after I had worked so hard on it. Seriously, the week leading up to the con I did NOTHING but eat, sleep, and sew.

So, we only went to AX one day, Friday, because that's what our budget could allow. We got up, exhausted from staying up too late the night before, got dressed (Curtis as Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho, Robbie as Tamaki from Ouran Host Club, and me as Renge from Ouran Host Club) and embarked on our journey to LA!

We took too long getting ready, and subsequently missed the para para dancing workshop that I really wanted to go to. But I was not discouraged because I was determined to have a good time. There were so many people dressed in amazing costumes. I got a lot of photos (as you can see on myspace.com/andichan).

We toodled around the dealer's room for awhile and looked for the code geass artbook that I wanted (Mutuality) which someone of course had (yay!). I love clamp. :3 I looked at all the artist alley tables (there were so many cute lolitas there!!!) but was too shy to approach some of the people I watch on deviantart. so I merely lurked around their tables for a bit and was on my merry way. We found some other Ouran High School Host Club cosplayers and got pics with them (yay!):

Not good enough! (my poor skirt... T-T)

This Haruhi was adorable.

A real-life Hunny! I had a fangirl moment when I saw him.

It was really hot, so we went into this booth that was giving away free fans. Little did I know it was a HENTAI booth! T-T They totally didn't make it seem like it was! I don't want to post here the contents that were inside... (but it was kind of worth it for the fan) T-T

We ate some really expensive hot dogs after that and went to the AMV contest, which was really fun! I didn't agree with all the winners, but that's ok. :D One person asked to take my photo, so I felt like all the work was worth it. A lot of people recognized Curtis as Yusuke, which was great! Yay for the old-school anime. We didn't take any pics of him at the con so that's why there isn't anything here. I have some post-con pics I will post later.

Now to look forward to Autumn Dream/Ani-Magic! :D
