So I decide to wear high heels on my birthday to feel pretty. Everything was going fine...until Captain and I got ice cream in Madison. Going to my car, I step off the curb and do just fine. Next thing I knew, I was on the ground. I must have fallen on uneven pavement or my heel got caught on loose gravel but whatever the reason, I ended up on my knees and wrists. Captain Scott drove my car back to campus. I couldn't put any weight on my left leg so security took me to the ambulance that was at the Millsaps game. The EMT told me to go to the hospital to get it x-rayed. ER doctor told me I had a knee enfusion but she couldn't tell if I tore or stretched a tendon because there was too much swelling and fluid. I was put in a leg immobilizer and on crutches and was told to go to the doctor next week. They gave me pain medicine but it didn't help any.
I went to the doctor yesterday and he said that right now it looks as if it is just a deep bone bruise to the patella. If it doesn't get better by the time I go back next week then he will do a MRI. I got him to x-ray my wrist and he said it is questionable but possible that I cracked my bone so he put me in a wrist splint. I'm in the leg immobilizer and on crutches still at least until next week. He gave me Vicodin and a stronger anti-inflammatory which has worked for the most part. It sucks because I can't drive and I can barely walk. I go back next week to see what is going on.
I don't want sympathy or pity. I can do most things... it just takes me a little longer. Some things I do need help with and even though I'm hard-headed, I will accept and ask for help. Like Security brings me to and from class and dinner. Some people carry my books or food tray. Overall, I do okay.
Despite the 3 hours I spent in the emergency room, I had a really great day. I went to lunch at Keifer's with some friends and then dinner at Stix with some other friends. I went to Border's and bought myself a book and then got ice cream (which I only had a few bites of since it fell and spilled everywhere). Courtney's parents bought me a strawberry cake from Ambrosia's when they came up for the play. Beth got me a cookie cake which didn't last long lol. There was a lot more but it's too much to mention. It was an awesome, and now very memorable birthday.
Happy 20th birthday to me.
