...in no particular order.
-Change is inevitable. Yet, I still hate it.
-School can be even more overwhelming than originally thought
-Life doesn't stop for your grief
-You can meet some of the best friends you will ever have
-Or you can meet some of your worst enemies
-Don't think you know someone if you really don't know them (luckily, I did not learn this first hand)
-Know where your boxers are AT ALL TIMES
-Have trusting friends around when you get drunk
-You WILL get drunk
-You will do some stupid things but that's ok...college is a time for experimenting
-Don't wait until last minute to do big projects/papers
-Take naps
-You can have the worst roommate or the best roomate. Lucky for me, I got the best.
-Go with the flow of things
-Don't be so quick to judge
-Go on late night outings
-Whether you want to believe it or not, at some point, you will become homesick
-Stay in touch with family
-Visit home at least a few times a semester
-Watch how you spend your money -- college kids really are broke
-Stay in some nights and watch movies with friends
-Have one person whom you are really close to and can talk about anything with
-Expect people to change
-Stay on top of your work from the beginning. It only gets harder as the semester goes on.
-Don't do your laundry on the weekends. You'll never get it done.
-Know your values, morals, and limitations
-Getting involved is very important
-Have heart-to-heart talks
-Be open to new things, ideas, people
-Keep in touch with old/high school friends
-Pick up where you left off when you go home
-Understand that YOU will change
-Skip a class every once in awhile and just sleep. Don't feel guilty about it.
-Find a job before the summer comes. I'm still working on that.
-Make sure you are available if someone needs you--to talk, help them in some way.
-Get along with your roommate. You're stuck with him/her for the year (unless you are really lucky and can get out).
-Work hard at everything
-Be yourself
*bold indicates most important*
I've met some of the most amazing pepole and then some not-so-great people. I have some great friends but even great friendships can change. My first year was a roller coaster ride but it was incredibly worth it. This list includes just some of the things I've learned. People change and nothing ever stays the same yet I've learned to go with the flow. I'd give myself 2 thumbs up for a job well done.
*Feel free to add to this list*
