My Wall'verse is mocking me at the moment, so I'm trying to kick myself back into a writing groove before tackling it.
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
o1: JamisonParker - Slow Suicide
"Damnit, kid," Bones muttered under his breath as he spotted Jim knocking back another drink across the room.
Jim had somehow convinced him to come along to this stupid party, and Bones was unimpressed. It didn't help that Jim was getting completely trashed. He couldn't help himself, marching right over and dragging Jim away from the pretty girl he was chatting up by the arm.
"Hey!" Jim yelped, startled, and spilled his drink.
"Are you trying to kill yourself? How many of those things have you had?" Bones sounded weary, but Jim merely smiled at him. It wasn't a pretty smile. It was cold and brittle.
"Not enough, apparently, if I'm still sober enough for this conversation," Jim said, words coming out biting.
o2: The Movielife - Hey
Jim pointedly avoided looking at Bones. Bones did the same.
The two sat side-by-side, watching the suns set and drinking whatever local drink had been pushed on them at the festival.
"Why don't we--" Jim began, and then stopped. "Why didn't we work out?" he asked after a few more moments of silence. He hadn't really expected Bones to have an answer for him, but sometimes it was painful to have Bones so close and so far away.
But being together was just too hard. It hadn't been fun anymore. They just didn't fit together like that.
o3: Maria Taylor - Smile and Wave
"Mornin'," Leonard said genially. Clay nodded back in greeting, a warm smile on his face.
First and last time they saw one another that day. He came home late that night. If he hadn't stayed behind at the hospital for so long, he just might have seen him again, leaving Leonard's own house.
Sometimes he stayed behind on purpose. These days it was easier than trying to reason away the smell of another man's cologne in his bedroom.
o4: Men, Women, & Children - Messy
Jim grinned when Bones pushed him up against the wall.
"I knew you had it in you," he said, pleased.
Bones rolled his eyes, but didn't waste any time in pulling Jim's shirt up over his head and throwing it to the floor.
"I like it when you make a mess," Jim decided, still grinning. Bones decided that he was going to kiss those damned smug lips until it hurt to smile like that. Jim didn't exactly protest.
When Jim's hands made quick work of loosening his pants and shoving a hand down Bones' underwear, Bones decided that the kissing had been a very good plan indeed.
He didn't even want to think about what might have come out of Jim's mouth in response to Bones' loud moaning.
o5: Regina Spektor - Après Moi
"Are you all right?"
"Aw, Bones, you sound so concerned," Jim said, mocking him.
"I guess that means the answer's 'yes'. In which case, get out." Bones didn't bother looking up from his PADD and pointed at the door to his quarters.
"You're such a saint," Jim grunted as he attempted to stand again and found himself falling back down to the floor.
"You're still here," Bones said, voice dull.
"What an astute obeseravation. Obseravation? Fuckit," Jim slurred the last two words and just let himself fall back completely and he stared at the ceiling. "I am too drunk for this shit."
"Obviously."
"Hey, Bones?" Jim said after several minutes of silence, aside from the soft beeping coming from Bones' side of the room.
"Hm?" Bones barely registered him.
"You're an ass."
"No kidding," Bones breathed out in laughter.
"Love you."
"Yeah, you too, kid."
"Ass," Jim groaned, and then rolled on his side, ignoring the stench of the carpet.
o6: Everclear - Her Brand New Skin
"Are you coming, or what?"
"We've known each other three days." Leonard stared at this ridiculous, smiling guy, who he'd ranted to on the shuttle to the academy, and hadn't been able to shake since.
"Yeah, so?" Jim asked, blinking away his confusion at what one had to do with the other.
Leonard sighed and stood up, wiping imaginary lint off his cadet reds.
"Fine, I'll come with. But you owe me a drink."
"Whatever, man," Jim said, beaming.
o7: The Maine - We Change, We Wait
"Hey, Bones?" Jim asked out of the blue one day, sitting on the edge of one of the beds in the infirmary as Bones ran the dermal regenerator over his bruised and bleeding face.
"Stop moving," Bones said gruffly.
Jim fell silent and closed his eyes, letting the hum of the machinery wash over him, covering his tumultuous thoughts. When Bones turned it off, he dared to slowly open his eyes.
"Bones?" he tried again. Bones just nodded him on. "Thanks," Jim said softly.
"I'm a doctor, Jim; it's what I do." This made Jim smile.
"Not what I meant," Jim confessed. "I meant, thanks. For waiting. For me."
Bones just arched an eyebrow and put the equipment away.
o8: Eve 6 - At Least We're Dreaming
Jim shut the door of his crappy apartment, not even bothering to lock it. Locking the door in this neighborhood was more dangerous than leaving the door wide open. He didn't have anything to steal anyway, and if he left the door locked, he'd likely come home to a door broken off its hinges.
Down the stairs and out the building. Turn around the corner and walk off towards the other side of town.
He wasn't stupid enough to park his bike by his building.
An hour later he found himself at a bar; he didn't know the name and he didn't much care. As long as there were attractive humanoids and copious amounts of drink, it was good enough for his purposes.
Hell, they didn't even have to be humanoid. No one ever said Jim Kirk was a man of discerning taste when it came to his sex partners.
Halfway to shitfaced, a gorgeous girl with beautiful dark hair and skin came walking up to the bar, and as soon as she opened her mouth to order her drinks, he figured she could be a fun way to spend this useless night.
o9: Jack's Mannequin - Dark Blue
"Look," Jim said. He had stopped a few feet back and Bones was too busy looking at him to check out whatever it was that had caught Jim's eye.
The moon was full, the city lights were brightly beaming, and Jim's face was lit up.
"At what?" Bones said after a few moments of silence, walking back over to Jim and standing beside him, looking out towards the sea.
"Just... look," Jim said simply. He turned his head to smile at his best friend, and then climbed over the short wall separating the sidewalk from the sand.
"Damnit, Jim," Bones grumbled to himself, and followed.
When Jim finally got down to the water's edge, he began stripping. There was no one around, but there was no way Bones was going to join him.
"You're going to catch something," he warned. Jim shot him a cheeky grin, and tossed his t-shirt on top of Bones' head.
"You should join me!" he yelled, splashing into the foamy water in nothing but his underwear. Bones just peeled the shirt off his head and watched.
1o: She & Him - Change Is Hard
Jocelyn watched with envy as she saw the blond put his hand on Len's shoulder, leaning in close to breathe words into his ear.
She had thought she was over him, done with loving Leonard McCoy. But no matter how miserable they were together, the sight of her ex-husband smiling at someone else the way he used to smile at her, seeing Len brush his hand over the other man's chest, it made her heart ache.
Jocelyn's eyes widened when she finally got a good look at Len's new lover. It was James Kirk, the captain of the Enterprise.
She couldn't suppress the sneer that pulled at her lips.
She had to turn her head, look away. She shouldn't have come to the function, no matter how much Clay insisted that it was a good idea.
