WiP: Startrek 2009: OT4 - Riverside (G)

Ahhh! So, boring personal details aside, I'm having a D: unfun time of life at the moment and writing is going slow. Er, and by 'slow' I mean more or less nonexistent.

I have two stories being worked on for the Wall'verse, one more than half finished. Unfortunately it's the porn half of the story that doesn't want to come along quietly. The other one is just a bunch of half-written scenes, and nothing's sounding right. I'm just not in a good frame of mind at the moment and writing is hard for me on my good days.

So, here is 600 words of a Trouble'verse story that I wanted to write, but the plot is currently being too troublesome. I will probably end up coming back to it, but I need to give up on it now and write something else, or I'll spend the next year trying to write this story and nothing else. And can I just say? Writing Spock is hella hard.

(Oh, and their son is in this story, for those of you all ~omg what's his name~, you can find out here.)

"Amanda, hold your brother's hand," Jim said absently as the six of them finished beaming down. He began walking immediately, ignoring them all.

"Yes, Daddy." Amanda had that long-suffering affectation to her voice that so many little girls get as they start to get older, thinking themselves victims of torture when asked to perform everyday tasks. She took her brother's hand, but she made sure everyone knew it was under great duress.

"Don't use that tone when you talk to your dad," Nyota said, gently tugging on one of Amanda's braided ponytails.

"Yes, Mama," she sighed.

Bones shot Nyota a look, who smiled at him over the children's heads. He walked closer to her and wrapped an arm around her waist as they walked.

Normally this would be a case for Jim to start playfully whining how unfair it was that Bones could get away with what Nyota liked to call, quote, "an archaic display of ownership," while he got the speech on gender equality. But he was walking straight ahead, his mind somewhere else entirely.

"Why don't you want to hold my hand?" Savid asked, frowning thoughtfully. "Is there something wrong with it? Father, is there something wrong with my hand?"

"It is doubtful," Spock answered back, his lips twitching ever so slightly.

"Nothing wrong with it, I just don't want to hold it," Amanda said as though she was imparting some sort of ancient wisdom.

"I don't wish to hold your hand, either!" Savid protested, looking to his parents for support.

Bones quickly scooped the boy up into his arms, holding him up on his hip with one arm under his bottom and the other around his back to support him.

"Thank you," Amanda said, sighing in relief.

"Uh-huh. Don't think we won't be talking about this later," Bones scolded.

Amanda stared at the dirt ground as they walked up to the house, mimicking his words under her breath.

"And don't think we can't see what you're doing, either."

Amanda just frowned harder, and then jutted out her bottom lip in a furious pout. Nyota playfully pulled on one of her pigtails again and the little girl just stared at her brother, who was still being carried, a bit resentfully. But at least the pout was gone.

"So, are you excited to meet your grandma?" Bones asked the child in his arms. Savid squirmed a little and looked over to Spock and shook his head furiously. "No?"

"Nuh-uh. I mean, no."

"Not even a little bit?" Bones prodded, trying to hide his smile. Savid just stared harder at Spock, who finally turned his head to look back at them.

"I don't get excited," Savid said, immediately looking back at Bones now that he had Spock's attention.

"Oh, well that's a shame," Nyota chimed in, straight-faced and looking serious. Savid froze at this and stared at his mother with big round eyes.

"It is?"

Any other time, Jim would have joined in on the playfulness, but he had been a bit distant for days and now that they were moments away from strolling into the home in which he grew up he wasn't paying any attention to his family.

"It is. I bet your grandma's going to be real excited to meet you. She'd probably be sad to learn you weren't excited, too." Bones was trying to keep his smile at bay, but it wasn't working out too well. However, too smart for his own damn good or not, Savid was only five and still didn't always know when he was being teased by his parents.
