This is going to sound odd but I've stopped eating fruit altogether. Shock, horror? No - on the contrary, my bloating has never been better. Ie. gone down by a lot, almost non-existent.
Further, in a snub to my Asian roots, I've cut down on my carbs. Drastically (at least I've tried my best to!). So that means no more noodles (shock horror indeed... I love my noodles), no rice, no bread (including the fantastic Latvian rye bread), no sweet potato (seriously painful), nothing with added sugar.
So, keto, or ketosis. I've been following this with interest, and did some minor experimenting. Instead of my usual porridge + banana + peanut butter + protein powder, I have 3 eggs + fried avocado and spinach for breakfast. In the past, I get hungry within 4h, sometimes more. Now, I feel sated for over 7h. I've been putting in more fats in the form of coconut oil and recently, salmon belly (seriously, best thing ever!) Though the fats are still not high enough to put me into ketosis, I feel full for longer. For instance, on Monday, I had breakfast and lunch (salmon on edamame and seaweed, cooked salmon on raw salad) and didn't feel hungry at all for dinner. I had some nuts (almonds and walnuts!) for a snack around 5.30, but that was it.
Energy wise, I'm doing good. In fact, I almost daresay better than I do usually when I do have a sudden drop in energy around the middle of the afternoon.
What now? Honestly, I think I will struggle with the full ketosis diet because I'm lactose sensitive (oh fine, I have lactase tablets) and don't eat meat (fatty steak and beef...). But hey, FISH. The challenge would be to get the fats without the carbs (this isn't that difficult) and too much protein (this is going to be the challenge)
A has absolutely forbidden me from doing this: fats make you fat; you need to be eating every 2-3h (yeah, to sustain that dangerous blood sugar level); fruit is healthy (well, fiber, minerals, vitamins can be obtained from other sources. Kale and broccoli come into mind)
Really excited to know what happens! And no, if there is any danger to my body (ie. I feel really unwell) I will stop. But thus far, my body seems pretty happy with low carbs, so let's try and keep it that way.
Oh also, I just thought to put it out here. My goals are not about losing weight: I want to be leaner, stronger, and more importantly, NOT FEEL HUNGRY EVERY 3H.
