That was my assignment story, the only fandom I knew of those the recipient asked for, and it was hard going for me. Camilla (one of two characters I'd agreed on) was for me above all the merciless fighter and the woman who had lost her future and her feminity through rape. Writing her backstory and countering it with the present was an intriguing thing to do. It was only later that I realized that Darkover fanfiction was not exactly agreeable to MZB.

Summary: Ed Straker has turned into a bitter, ruthless workaholic, driving his staff relentlessly even before SHADO is fully up and running. Or so his secretary thinks.
This one I wrote as a treat. There were various ideas meshed into this one, that of a one hour piece, that of the early Commander and his state of mind after a divorce and loss of his son, and lastly how Straker and Ealand came to be such a well-functioning pair. Being able to provide the illustration was an extra moment of fun in this.

Summary: Carol Jordan takes profiler Tony Hill up on his contention that he would sleep with her, if only he could.
This one was a pinch-hit and pure fun to write. That unresolved sexual tension between Carol and Tony always intrigued me very much. So when I got the chance to write this I positively squealed with joy! It is the very serious, respectful and reserved manner with which those two treat each other, which made me think of a feasible, a do-able way to give them what both are craving.There's this one image of Tony in my mind, where he quietly sits down to eat the dinner his raving mad stalkeress cooked for him, after dealing with how she tried to harm Carol. And there is the image of Carol's reaction to learning about his brain tumor. Both scenes together made this story here a likely one to me.
On the whole Yuletide has been an interesting experience, though I had hoped for more recognition of obscure fandoms.
