I really don't understand why people like The Vampire Diaries (heretofore known as VD).
It's no better than Twilight, really, except maybe without the disparaging themes about women, which I'll admit does give it some clout. But that doesn't make the sheer level of juvenility okay. I only watched the pilot, but, honestly, I couldn't take anymore of the voice overs about their feelings as they write in their journals. I realize that Elena is a child, but Stefan is not. He should not be lamenting in a journal, it's pathetic and sad and an entirely unlikable trait. I can't stand him at all. And then Boone Damon showed up and I was intrigued and I'll admit I rather liked him, but I'm pretty sure that I can't be won over by a single character. The rest of VD was cheesy without ever realizing it (which is the worst kind), unintelligent, and sappy. VD is based on a series of books for juveniles, I know, but why in the world does it still act like it? Is there a law somewhere that says that juvenile supernatural stories have to be watered down and lazy with emotionally stunted main characters? It's an epidemic! Kill it like you would any other VD!
