I feel incredibly exhilarated, both by the fact that who I believed was the better candidate won, but also a restoration in my faith for America in that scare tactics didn't win nor did the racial divide. The symbolism of this is so potent that this will go down in history as one of the defining moments in American history.
Sadly, even though one barrier is broken, another remains. Prop 8 in California is poised to pass, putting a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages. The long fight for equality starts anew.
