Ares's portal had deposited Gabrielle in some kind of stone chamber, completely dark save for one beam of light coming straight down from above. Two other notable things she was missing: her weapons, and Xena. Gabrielle had thought that now, finally, Xena would start treating her more like an equal partner when it came to fighting, or at least stop trying to protect her all the time.
