turkey day: the thawing

Jan 21, 2014 09:38

I went back to sleep after I got the turkey set up. I was looking online for better ways to thaw the turkey and found Alton Brown's method. He suggests using a cooler to keep the proper temperature, set in the bathtub for easy draining. I don't have a cooler or even a big plastic bin, but I kept thinking about it because the garbage-bag-in-the-sink used too much water and I couldn't do it in good conscience. As I was falling asleep, I came up with the garbage-bag-in-an-insulatd-tote idea, and here it is. It isn't perfect, but it seems to be working well, and the bag is just the right size to fit the turkey while using a minimal amount of water. The bag isn't water proof, which is why I used the garbage bag still.

Also, I looked at the potatoes I was planning to cook and saw that they are no longer edible. I can either make rice or go buy more potatoes. I could also make bread, dry it out and then make stuffing. We'll see how I feel later in the day.

Oh, and they are doing construction again today, and it's loud. Not very relaxing on my day off. And since I have been working more lately, I feel like I need a relaxing day off.
