toasty kitties need sleep

so what do they do instead? post to their livejounals. woo.

para-chan's parents are in town, and were good enough to invite me along to dinner out and a movie, namely Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I'm not cutting anything I have to say because... well... if you're a fan, you've probably already read the book, if not seen the movie, if not already been completely spoiled anyway. If none of these apply you either aren't a fan or really simply don't care a bit.

basically, I was happy with everything, save the preview for the Dark is Rising. kari-chan was right in saying... whatever she'd had to say on the subject at Sean's birthday party. It looks as though they took one of my favorite books of all time, pulled out a few things that were interesting, threw the rest away, and then Industrial-Hollywoodized the rest. I'm sure that it will be a very pretty movie. I'm also very certain it will have nothing to do with the book I love, given that my first thoughts were that the got the Rider's horse wrong. Nevermind that no one has the accent they should have, that Lyon (if he was there in the preview at all) wasn't nearly tall enough, and that Will was wandering around in what looked like a Santa Cruz letter-style jacket. And the introduction of romance. *pout*

wait... wasn't I supposed to be talking about the movie I actually saw, and not the one I won't be seeing? Right... still happy with the movie, but it doesn't take much for me to be happy with a movie, really. Yes, they left things out, but the meat of the story was still there, it didn't feel like it was dragging at all (let's face it, this kept me up WAY past my bedtime. if it was dragging, I would have probably gone to sleep), and it was very fun to watch. I was very happy with who they got to play Kingsley Shackelbolt, because while in my mind he will always be Samuel L. Jackson (hah! finally remembered his name!) the guy they have was quite lovely. I was also amazingly and painfully amused by the treatment they gave Ms. Umbrige's office... and though I still don't hold with who they cast (she didn't look NEARLY toady enough for me) I have to admit that she was suitably finger-nails-on-chalkboard in her irritation factor. And Helena Bonham Carter really threw me for a loop as Bellatrix, but DAMN it worked. mostly, it threw me because she's one of those faces that I can recognize and never figure out why... yeahyeah... IMDB, I know...

also while at the theater, I saw a poster advertising a movie of Beowulf. I think I'm scared. Maybe it would be worthwhile if they did it in the old english or something ;p
