Party On, Garth! (spoilers and more)

I wasn't sure what to expect with this week's Supernatural.  I'd figured it would be filler after last week's angst fest.  And while there were elements of that, there was some good fun as well as some moments that tugged on your heart.  That, for me, was what made Party On, Garth a winner.

First off, how delightful is DJ Qualls?  He's got a real quirky charm that isn't easily duplicated.  His Garth isn't the fighter Sam and Dean are.  But he's smart, he's tenacious, and he doesn't let the fact that a strong breeze would blow him over get in the way of him being a bad ass.  He doesn't know how incredibly dorky he is and that's what makes him so winning.  When he first pulled out that damned sock puppet, I cringed, thinking this was going to be embarrassing for all involved.  By the end, I was laughing like an idiot.  DJ (and by extension, Garth) committed to the idea that Mr. Fizzles was going to get them the answers they needed and the very lunacy of such a strategy drew me in.  That's only one example of why I enjoyed his character and I hope he'll return.

Other Things I Liked:
- The opening with the classic clueless teens camping out in the haunted woods (or so we thought).  It was beautifully shot and genuinely spooky.
- Sam and Dean, looking gorgeous as usual.  I think JP's hair may be past the awkward stage.  It's beginning to grow on me (pun very much intended).
- The Shojo was scary (even if she did look like the chick from The Grudge).
- Garth's liquor tolerance (or lack thereof).
- The Japanese cook who helped them translate.  He was rather adorable.
- Sam and Dean tagteaming to take down the Shojo.  ("To the right!"  "My right!"  Or something like that.)
- Dean's "Bobby, are you there?"  ::meep!::
- The revelation that Sam looked into whether Bobby might be haunting them, but kept the news from Dean because he obviously didn't want to break his brother's heart any more than it had already been broken.
- The sight of Bobby, watching over his boys.
- Bobby's "Balls!"  (I've missed you, you grizzled curmudgeon.)
- The fact that Show managed to keep Jim Beaver's cameo a secret (even though I ruined the surprise for myself by checking out the boards before watching the ep).

Things I've Got Questions About:
- I'm a little confused by who the Shojo was targeting and why.  They kept talking about how she was going after the kids, but she killed the wife of the one owner rather than his daughter.  And then at the end, Sam/Dean/Garth only had eyes on the older daughter, but no one keeping tabs on Tess.  Did I miss something?
- Seriously--how does Sam not have brain damage?  We need a drinking game where you slam a shot every time he gets knocked in the head.

That's it for me.  This was another good one.  I can't wait to see where they go with ghost!Bobby.  I fully expect to have my heart ripped from my chest and turned into dog food.

Oliver, why are you looking at me that way?
