For those who may have missed it, I actually posted fic for The Birthday. I know! I actually managed to post some fic! *shock*

Apparently there's a guy in Sweden trying to make himself lactate without using hormones. No real reason, just because. It rather amused me, but your mileage may vary. ;)

I just love the evil saltshaker picture on thisRead more... )

Thanks so much for the WSJ link - that was a very thought-provoking piece which I deeply and thoroughly enjoyed. :D You pretty much have heard me enough, I think, to know my feelings, so you can probably guess why/how I found it so powerful.

Wish everyone would read it.

I'm as big on freedom-to-read as the next person, but. . .all I can say is, "'xactly."

I rather enjoyed it, so I figured others would, too. ;) I totally understand wanting to bring attention to challenged books, particularly since so many are challenged for so many stupid reasons, but to call them 'banned' or to call that 'censorship' is totally bogus.

The Annoyed Librarian blog had a good post about this yesterday, too: http://www.libraryjournal.com/blog/580000658/post/870049287.html?nid=4697 I especially appreciate the attention given to the ALA definition of censorship, which isn't actually referring to censorship at all (in fact, it explicitly excludes government censorship, as AL points out in the post). But that's how they can get away with doing Banned Books Week in the first place, so I suppose it makes some sort of sense. :p
