stupid me for not reading a little further on your journal before posting a comment. i realized that you are there for school. i'd really love to go, although im not currently enrolled in a university at the moment. so i figured if i do decided to go for school, whether it be language or art etc etc, it will be pretty heavy in my pocket. nonetheless i would REALLY love to hear your stories about your experience there, and the people. also, do you speak catalan?

email me please: graveetahs@gmail.com

thanks =)

El Raval was originally called Barrio Chino (chino meaning Chinese, but used to call any immigrant from anywhere really). It used to be one of the most dangerous parts of the city, full of unsavory characters. It's been cleaned up a lot, but it still holds the rich cultural background that immigration can bring to a city. For all that people tell me not to walk home at night alone, I've had less problems walking through the narrow dark streets in Raval than walking on the well lit streets in Eixample (the "spreading out" of the city where the blocks are all squares, and the streets are wide ( ... )
