AAR: Buckets of Dice 05, Day One

Friday Night,
Honour and Blood, LRPG.

From my point of view, as a GM, this went well. Everyone seemed to have fun and I have received positive comments so far. Particularly gratifying was Tim's comment that the pacing was good. This is something I think is often neglected in live games with the result that people run out of meaningful stuff to do before the game ends.

Numbers were initially low, with fewer walk-in players than I expected, but a few not-particularly-late arrivals bolstered that and only a few plots suffered as a result. The late arriving Dunedin contingent were a bit later than expected, so I don't know how much they got out of it.

The game started pretty much on time with a briefing from me to the players. I think this could have been tightened up, and I missed a couple of things. There were also a couple of plots that I wasn't quite on top of during the night, such as the Bansti plague. Thereafter, the game proceeded in 30 minutes days, every second one of which was a council session. During these the player base was separated. We tried to make sure that the smaller group (outside the council) had plenty to do, including (usually) the first significant chance to interview refugees and ambassadors from other lands. This seemed to work well, but as I was in the council room for most of this, I'm not particularly well informed on this.

Much thanks are deserved by my able assistants: Nick, Tony and Kirk, and Trond and Tim for technical assistance. (A big plug for Trond's LARPMake software too, without which, the design process would have been considerably more time consuming and confusing).

As always, I welcome player feedback. If you have a comment, query or criticism on any aspect of the game, please don't hesitate to contact me, either in person, via email or below. This is particularly necessary if you have criticisms; we don't know what we should do differently unless you tell us. But by the same token, if there are aspects you particularly liked, then tell us those too. Anonymous posts are allowed.
