-Waves an initial hello to the talented Big Name Fans on her F-list, none of the following of which applies to them-
There are many, many rants and instructional essays on how to make friends with BNFs/become a BNF/survive being a BNF/tell if you are a BNF/Cassie Claire.
But what if, like me, you're too lazy indifferent bunny-enslaved 'cautious'

A lot of the rules were me making fun of my own laziness, but, strangely, they do seem to apply a lot of the time for remaining 'obscure'. I actually love reading fanfic communities- everybody's just so bloody talented though that it's hard to hide that light under a bushel :)
I absolutely LOVE writing pairings that brings on hate mail or writing about characters that has hardly any screen time (Mrs. Higurashi has been a good character to play with), and I absolutely ADORE genfic.
You and me both! Looking back over my masterlist, I was shocked to see that at least a quarter of all my Inuyasha stories featured Midoriko or Mama Higurashi. Although I knew I had much love for them, I hadn't realized how often they inspired me :) As for the hate mail pairings... I guess I've been pretty lucky because a) Most of the time, even if people disagree with the pairing, I haven't gotten hatemail for it and b) The Gollum/Dobby/Jar Jar fic is not publically available. I love genfic and it always seem to me such a shame that there isn't more of it, particularly in fandoms with rich backgrounds and storylines that *don't* need to be explored romantically :)
I don't know why people EXPECT to have a ship in EVERY darn fic.
This... this puzzles me too. In some ways, I think it's a lot like what happens when fans look at the original series- interactions that the writers may have intended as platonic get warped into a romantic bent, and, if that isn't possible, demands for such interactions are made. It's actually kind of funny when looked at from that angle.... Of course, I made the mistake of posting a story that is about the very deep, largely platonic interaction between two characters on a ship comm, so I may have dug my own hole :)
In any case, I find genius in fic writers that take someone like Susan Bones of HP or Enju of IY and create a whole world about it.
Oh yes. I love it when people 'flesh out the skeletons' so to speak, particularly when they do it in such a way that it ties back in interesting ways to the more focused on canon universe.
I LOVE this. I mean, I don't mind the romantic crossovers, but if you can bring worlds together based on a general plotline or concept, I'm all for it.
Hee. I tend to do this far too often, which, I should warn you, gets some absolutely hilarious reviews ("B-but why are you crossing them if not for the hot sexxorrs?"). I'm half-tempted to put up my flow-chart essay on 'How to Write a Crossover with Anything and Make it Believable', but I'm not sure whether or not it would result in my imminent lynching :)
I wanted to do a GOOD HP/IY crossover,
This sounds fascinating! And I can assure you that *I* would read it :) And you weren't rambling at all- it was lovely.
