[Kadaj is standing alone on a public balcony, staring down at the cityscape. Too lost in his own thoughts, he doesn't notice his surroundings.]More and more often, I am encouraged to do what I want. Not follow so blindly. But what? What can I want? Humans are selfish creatures, it's easy for them to think there are other things of equal, even ( Read more... )

That sounds like a familiar dilemma. If it helps, I don't think there are too many times where people are really content. It's probably more that we're resigned, and that's probably worse. I'd say I almost envy you if you're not letting yourself sink into that kind of state.

How is it familiar? At least that makes more sense if you're resigned. That would lower your expectations about some things...and you'd probably accept whatever fate Mother hands to you more easily. You probably should, since I refuse to ever do the same. I can't.

Resignation leads to complacency. "We can't change it anyway," "it's what's supposed to happen." That's ridiculous. Everyone who lets something happen just because it's 'supposed to be that way' is just running from making their own decisions.

Do what makes you happy in the here and now.

But it's true, isn't it? In the end, you all...

Though...I guess beating the ones who decide to fight makes it more worthwhile. But what about the future?

Speaking from experience, a future where you just accept the shit that's going to be thrown at you isn't a very pleasant one. Fight for what makes you happy, and for the things that are important to you. I'm inclined to agree with the school of thought that we make our own fate. [says someone who pretty much did so already]

I'm not so sure if I agree with that, as there's only one person powerful enough to do so. But they make me happy...so I will continue fight for them.

[shrugs] If that's the way you see it. Personally, I say we're as powerful as we make ourselves. Well, perhaps not as strong as some special cases.

But there's a limit to how powerful a human can make themself, and it's a fairly small one. What do you mean?

[chuckles] Don't be so sure of that.

Tch... [Scowls faintly.] I'll do as I feel.

Well, suit yourself. But don't go complaining when you find humans who disprove your theory.

Why not? They complain about everything.

Only the ones who don't bother changing anything for themselves.
