That was insane
and I hate people. Trying to get back was crazy and I kind of thought aliza was going to pass out on the train (claustrophobia). We got very friendly with just about everyone around us, out of necessity. But in some ways, I like being on a train and having permission to talk to everyone. even if i hate everyone at the same time.
Anne invited us to the base to watch the big dc fireworks and have a picnic. It was lovely. There's so much open space there! And her building is old and cool, and war college is beautiful, but very imposing. The view over the water was perfect, and I can finally say I've seen DC's fireworks for sure.
I didn't manage to coordinate much besides my outfit, but that I did a killer job of. I was basically dressed like a flag. blue skirt with white stars, red and white striped tank top (and a white button up over it). even my eye liner is red white and blue. The picnic was a lot of fun too! Only one thing bit me (that i've discovered yet), and I killed it before it could pull any blood out. ha! so there! take that!
I made the honey cake (posted yesterday or so) and it's really good, though i think next time I'll add a bigger pinch of salt. Anne brought potato salad (amazing!), mayo-less coleslaw (also tasty), bbq chicken, and a cherry crumble (which i barely had room to have a bite of). Aliza brought baked beans and her brownies. the good stuff, because she likes us. stillesprite brought a refreshing gazpacho and these amazing butter cookies, some of which had blueberry jam in. delicious.
the crowds were seriously insane, though. on the way back, anne took us to metro center because it was too crazy around l'enfant. between metro center and chinatown, we saw a few fireworks being shot off the roof of a skyscraper. um.
we decided that dc could totally be bombed tonight and everyone would assume they were just more fireworks.
all in all, a lovely evening. so much fun! good people, good food, good view, and the weather wasn't horrible, particularly since it's july XD
