They break up on a Saturday. Yamapi remembers because it’s the day Jin blows him off to meet up with the hot waitress in the cafe they frequent, just down the road. Yamapi is grumpily considering calling Ryo and demanding he take him shopping when his phone begins to buzz.
He’s surprised, yet thrilled when he sees Kame’s number flash up on the screen, and he lets it ring three times before he answers in a slightly distant tone, wanting to appear as if he’s out having the time of his life and answering his phone is interrupting his hectic schedule.
Kame is subdued, voice quiet and Yamapi tries to ignore the slight thrill of fear snaking its way down his spine. He realises he’s babbling when he hears Kame laugh slightly and he snaps his mouth shut with a start.
He isn’t all that surprised when Kame tells him they should stop. Stop meeting in doorways and hotel rooms, stop blind gropes in storage rooms and quickies on Kame’s bed, floor, kitchen counter and whatever other hard counter they get to. Yamapi keeps his voice steady and forces himself to listen to the list of excuses Kame gives him, snatches of things like ‘I don’t want to keep sneaking around’ and ‘things are sort of getting better with Jin’ and finally ‘I’m sorry Yamapi. I just. Need some time’ until it’s too much and he mutters something about seeing Kame on Monday before putting down the phone.
He lets a slightly bitter smile cross his face as he leans against his sofa. After all what did he really expect-for them to stay together, go on real dates and become a real couple. No. They were never like that. And that, he thinks, is life.

I love that idea, Yamapi trying to make it seem like he's busy and important because he feels lonely and small.
After all what did he really expect-for them to stay together, go on real dates and become a real couple. No. They were never like that.

I LOVE THIS M'DEAR. IT'S SO ANGST AND SO WONDERFUL. I loved the way you described Kame breaking up over the phone as well. Nicely done. ♥
