steers and queers

so, i believe i have neglected all of you who happen to read livejournal and not that 'other' blogging site melodramatic.

i arrived safely in austin late monday night. since then i've been doing my best to acclimate to my new home. the weather is indeed more humid than southern california, but this is the land of central air and so it's tolerable.

i've had some great nights since i've been here. last night some friends and i ventured down to 6th street for the first time. i had a nice cigar and a beer at this place called halcyon on 4th and lavaca. '6th street' is more like 4th through 7th and is jam-packed full of bars, street vendors and the drunken populace. halcyon was a coffeehouse/bar/lounge place and very chill. it seems like a very awesome place to wind down after a full night of drinking, as the name would imply.

there was live entertainment of some variety at just about every bar in the area, and there are a ton of bars. it's slightly different than most bar scenes though in that it had a bit of a venice beach feel to it.

a few days ago we all went to an alamo draft house. it's a movie theater where you get served dinner and alcohol during the movie itself. it was real cool. after that we all came back to the place i'm currently staying and got pretty shitty, heh. i ended up fooling around with a girl that drove out to texas with us. she was a good friend of my roommate. it was an awesome night that ended in being able to fall asleep with an awesome lady in my arms.

the roommate, amber, and i signed a lease to a nice 1100ish sqft 2-bedroom apartment a mile or two from lake travis. it's in a beautiful area and only about 25 minutes from work. gas is 60-80 cents cheaper out here so i didn't mind the distance when compared to the location of the apartment, it's size/quality and the price. can't really beat 790/month for a place that big and nice.

so yeah, things are going well and i'm having a great time so far. got a little homesick tonight simply because there was nothing to do. all of the friends are pretty much overwhelmed with getting settled into their new living arrangements.

i start work on monday. the new building is amazing and huge. it should be a good time.

now i just need to find myself a more permanent lady ;)
