life in the corporate lane

Oct 22, 2005 18:01

I just got something in the mail from Fidelity Investments ...

and it turned out to be 401(k) retirement plan information. And it was from my new employer; Wayport if I haven't already said.

This floored me a little bit -- not only the evntuality of my retirement, but also the possibility that I might retire from Wayport. Their market is pretty permanent, I would think; people on the move, in hotels and such are going to need a local Internet Service Provider (ISP) more and more.

And the corporate culture is something that's going to take some getting used to, for me: they seem to respect people, to value them, treat them with dignity, encourage improvement, and so on. I'm used to being treated like crap by my current contract employer.

Getting up early and being there on time is a rather small sacrifice to make for this. And it's worth it.

Anyway, this is why I haven't posted much lately, much less suck to my regular schedule of chatting. I've been getting used to the work thing again, getting to bed by midnight CST (GMT -6), being tired a lot, squeezing in Ariann-time and game-time, and so on.
