So, my mom and I had this discussion about how I feel about Halloween. I say I've hated it for quite some time, she claims this is news to her. So, out of curiosity, I went back through my livejournal archives (which is always fun) to the past 3 Halloweens to see what I wrote. I was not surprised to see that, in my first year of LJ (2003) I was already claiming to "not be a fan of" Halloween. However, what DID surprise me is that I dressed up anyway that year... as a vampire. This is surprising to me because I honestly do not remember that...
Anyway, so yeah, for those who haven't heard, Halloween is pretty close to my least favorite holiday (my actual least favorite hoidays being Sweetest Day and Valentine's Day). Despite this fact, I did actually attend a Halloween party this year. After a failed attempt at a costume that made a social statement (I wanted to be what every college girl goes as: different flavors of slut. only that was my costume. i was just gonna wear the sexy devil/cat/school girl/hooker/sorostitute stuff all at once. clever, right? and sooo me, i know.) I ended up going as what was later decided to be the personification of my feelings toward Halloween. This translates into every black piece of clothing, accessories and makeup I could find, with a pinch of slutiness for good measure. I got called a hooker, a vampire, and a witch at the party... ah well. Didn't much matter to me, as I wasn't all about the dressing up anyway.
As for tonight, the actual night of Halloween..... I spent it watching House and SVU and writing an abstract for my women's studies paper. For me, Halloween has been over since I stumbled back into my apartment last Friday night/Saturday morning at some ungodly hour. It definitely wasn't as much fun for me as if I actually enjoyed the holiday.... but it *was* more fun than I expected.
My only regret this Halloween: that I missed seeing all the little kids at work dressed up in their costumes (I didn't work today). Ah well.
Here's to next year, when I'll hopefully be handing out candy from my very own place!
