Well, I hope everyone had a happy Independence day! I spent the day with some buddies just walking around Monterey. We started from base, and walked down to the Warf where we ate lunch at a resturaunt on just off the Coast Guard pier. From where we were sitting we could see sail boats, kayaks and party boats gliding across the water...picturesque is a great word for the scenery. Under the docks there were seals or sea lions playing...I'm not sure which live here abouts. After eating, we decided that we needed some exercise to work off lunch...so we walked along the beach where we saw sea otters splashing in the waves...lots of families playing on the beach, I can't wait to watch my kiddos out there....

We ended up walking down Cannery Row and looking at the various shops, my buddy who is normally very Hooah! went into this hat shop and started trying on all the hats...boonie hats, flowery sun hats, big pimpin' hats, and fuzzy boas to go with them...our other buddy said, "Oh, my god...you're a girl!" We all got a kick out of that. Then we meandered around until we hit this cool pool hall that is just off base. It is family owned and operated, small, mostly regular type customers, and they were having a free barbeque. We all got burgers, potato salad, ribs, and green salad...then we chilled around their fire pit until the fireworks went off. While we were there, a couple more buddies showed up and we all kept feeding the juke box so there was an ecclectic variety of music all night. Everyone at the hall knew each other and they all introduced themselves, it seemed like a big family reunion without all the disfunctionallity.

The fireworks were spectacular. We saw probably 5 different shows...most of them were small shows accross the bay, but we had front row seats for the big show in the bay. We called a cab about 1030, but traffic was not moving, so we opted to wait until the cars cleared out to go home...not really a great idea as when we did call a cab it was about an hour before he arrived. But there was good company and good music, so I guess other than losing sleep, not too bad a deal.

This morning I got up at 0700 and headed for the chow hall, when I got there they were closed...I think they were opening at 0730, but I had a root canal scheduled at 0750 and had to call a cab, so...no breakfast for me :(

The root canal wasn't bad, the doc was very nice, competent, and had nitrous oxide :) So, now I'm waiting for the numbness to wear off and for the chow hall to open up for lunch...

I'm gonna go over my homework again, and work on my korean spelling...which when they have 10 letters that make the exact same sound it's difficult. My teachers swear they are making different sounds, but I must just be retarded because I can't hear the difference.

Ya'll take care,

Anna
