Monterey

So it is gorgeous here. My classes start June 7th, and when I mention that I'm getting Korean, the usual response is, "OOOH, Sorry." Several folks arrived from Ft. lost in the woods this weekend and are getting Russian. I found that they scored significantly lower on their DLABs than did the folks slotted for Korean. Now I kinda wish I'd blown the test...but we'll see how it works out, and maybe if I wash out I'll have a chance at Russian...we'll see.

I've met many interesting folks, all army as we aren't allowed to consort with other services until we're in our gaining companies...wouldn't want to infect the brand new shiney privates with airforce or navy gunk.

We had a better introduction to modern army combatives on wed and thurs of last week. God I love that stuff! And sunday the Drill Sgt on duty offered to supervise anyone who wanted to go at it. On thursday, everyone was gung-ho, on sunday me and one other soldier showed up. So, he and I had some really good practice with a proficient roller. I'm bruised, almost broke my own nose--don't ask now, maybe later--sore and achey and lovin' every minute of it.

Monday was Memorial Day, we were given a day pass into Monterey and me and two buddies ended up walking downtown a bit, grabbing a bus to the strip mall and shopping for civilian undies and books. I bought Ghost by John Ringo and Pyramids by Terry Prachett. I've read Ghost, but I read it on line and think I must have missed some since when I read Kildar there were referants that I didn't recall. Also, the book store didn't have Choosers of the Slain which is the next in the series, nor did they have any of my other fave authors's newest books, so...

I guess that's about it, fairly uneventful AIT so far, many of my BCT buddies are goin' full steam into their areas already, and I'm just inprocessing and waiting right now....gotta love it.

Tschau for now,
Anna
