The past few days my first and last sentences have been so awful I couldn't bear for them to see the light of day (or of LJ). Hopefully today will be better....

This whole not-starting-out-with-a-plot business is rather invigorating; most of what pops into my mind ends up on the page, which I'm not saying leads to an increase in quality, but it makes the whole thing much...freer than it felt last year.
