In my house, when I was growing up, we served our ice cream out with an ice-cream-shoppe style ice cream scooper.
However normal people (in which I unsarcastically include most people who have served me ice cream in their homes - including members of my extended family - and both the people with whom I have shared a freezer who are not a part of my family) apparently are brought up to just use a spoon.
So, when people in my home serve themselves ice cream, they tend to eschew my specially bought ice cream scooper, sometimes even as I wave it in front of them, in favor of the wide large soup spoons.
My Only Problem with all of this is that our freezer is cold, and our flatware is cheap, and the ice cream is generally harder than the metal that the spoons are made from.
As I was washing and putting away dishes this evening I was half alarmed, half amused to find that *all* the soup spoons were bent at a noticible downward angle - such that if one were to eat soup with them one would have to contort one's hand and wrist in interesting positions relative to one's mouth, lest the soup all fall out back into one's bowl.
Poor One. Always in other people's trouble, that one.
