tomato questions

I have tomato starts growing in a plastic egg-carton in my kitchen.

I have between 0-5 sprouts growing in each egg-sized pot-ette. They are currant and brandywine, if that makes any difference.

My questions are:

1) how big should I let the sprouts get before I snip off the weaker ones in each little subsection so the strongest looking one can grow?
1a) what's the strongest one? is it the tallest one or the one with the most leaves?

2) how big should I let them get before I transplant them to my planter outside

3) I've got a good medium-sized outdoor planter, probably 12" dia and almost as deep. Do we think this could handle one of each or should I just pick one variety to grow in my planter?

4) who (beside fairoriana who already asked for some) wants the starts I don't plant in my planter?
