Gundam Wing beginning of one-shot - the one where Relena locks Zechs and Heero in a kitchen
Heero/Relena
In the grand scheme of things, Heero supposed he didn’t matter. His time was up. Mission: completed. He was destined- and more than happy- to fade into the background. He had helped shape the future, and it was up to others- the politicians, the reformers, the veterans who hadn’t been indelibly scarred- to build up the promised new life.
Relena, of course, was one of those people.
She was an independent person, and she could handle herself and her affairs perfectly well on her own. However, Heero found it to be in his best interest to ignore that rather true fact, and focus on her less-than-Gundam-pilot reflexes and fighting skills, her ability to get herself involved with dangerous characters (like himself, he occasionally mused), and the bad feelings her political career could possibly create.
He had said countless times before that it is best to follow one’s emotions. Of course, it is always up for debate what exactly constitutes an "emotion", and there were seldom times he actually followed his own advice, but still... There was always that nagging, annoying little part of him that told him to protect and stay close to Relena. (It was also constantly antagonizing him about the whole silly "attempts on her life" thing, but those comments were so much more easily ignorable.)
It was an added benefit, of course, that his constant nearness meant that any potential suitors were usually too frightened of him to ever pursue her. Not that he would ever take even the slightest interest in Relena’s personal life. Of course not.
Relena, intelligent though she may be, was completely oblivious to Heero’s little interferences.

Who knows when this'll get finished... Heh. It's a funny idea, though.
