Oh. And by the way.

I...

Totally forgot why I started writing this entry. Damn it. Oh well - writing meme time!

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why.

2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?

3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?

This is a really tough one! Probably because I almost never make up my own place names. Heh. I'm never that concerned with setting - I mean... well, the specific locations where the story takes place I am, but as far as bigger picture? I never really care that much when I'm reading, so that has translated to my writing. Unless it plays some pivotal role in the story, I don't really care. Like as long as there was a Hogwarts Castle and all the specific locations, Harry Potter could take place on the moon and I probably wouldn't really care. I don't know, though.

I understand that sometimes the setting can be almost its own character and I understand that - I do try to develop a really intricate world (like the place where my GCS is set - which I rambled on about in part one and two of this meme, heh), but I have a hell of a time naming it. Really, I don't know why it's so much trouble for me, but I absolutely can't come up with good place names! I mean, I can make a town "Scottsdale" or something like that, but any new, unique names and I get a little lost. It really pisses me off, too. I think that's one problem, though. I think I can't do it, and then I'm not able to do it. Self-fulfilling prophecy. Eeks.

OH! But character names. Ahem.

Well, in the beginning stages of my writing, I just picked a name I liked. That is one reason why the GCS has characters with really bizarre names. They don't make any real sort of sense, and they're all different sorts of names. That should probably bother me more than it does - right now, it's probably the biggest problem in the story. I need a believable place where people would have such a varied set of names. Who knows - I may just blow it off and decide to leave everyone with the names I have now. XP I've grown too attached to the characters to change their names now, I think.

As far as other characters, I'm much more methodical in name choice. The names I pick don't always mean something, but I like to try to make them fit the character well. Sometimes I will look at the meaning of names - that's a very cool way to decide. And right now I'm working on a short story that's sort of... weirdly based in Arthurian legend (or something - I don't even know u.u) and that's how I decided the names: Artie for a kid, and Mr. Fisher for this weird old man. Heh. Pretty obvious and not particularly clever, but it suits my purposes very well.
