...Or yes, I missed a week.
Family Remains
Good Points
- Yay! Hunting in the Impala! A job! Haunted houses! I’ve missed you show!
- I loved all the high angle shot that made the boys look so small (no mean feat) and like they were being watched. Very creepy.
- Yea Gods she was scary when she stepped into the circle.
- “Please nobody grab my leg, please nobody grab my leg…” <3
- I actually jumped at one point during the exploring-the-lair scene. I don’t normally do that.
Bad Points
- Listen Danny, this isn’t the ‘50s. When a scary girl appears in your new house and threatens your family you should know that she is not going to be your BFF. Some more anxiety would be warranted.
- What’s with the “You? That’s impossible!” from the soon-to-be stiff? He was the one that was keeping her locked away. That was one bad plothole.
- So apparently the “kids” are de-humanised enough that it’s okay for them to be killed at the end of the ep. But they were literate and could communicate (the girl was talking calmly enough and playing catch with Danny). IDK, I guess I just didn’t buy that they were irredeemable.
Points In General
- Okay so when the family said they had a son called Andy (who had “gotten himself killed) I immediately assumed it was Psychic!Andy. In hindsight it wouldn’t have made any sense, what with Andy being adopted and that plotline’s been basically written off anyway. I was disappointed all the same.
- I missed the bit were the other “kid” was introduced; so that was confusing.
- Dean enjoying torturing souls. It fits. I’m not saying Dean is more inclined to enjoying other people’s pain but he was in hell for 40 years, that’s enough to make anyone more than slightly unbalanced.
Criss Angel is a Douchebag
Good Points
- Liked the elderly magicians and really empathised with them, especially Jay. Charlie’s support and affection for him and the fact that he does what he does to further his friend’s act and not his own (not to mention to give Jay a reason to keep on living) made him so much complex than many villains of the week the Show has given us. Vernon’s desire for youth and the fact that he abandons Jay after he causes that option to disappear (never mind that people would probably have to die and keep dying for them to keep it up) was really disheartening, but at the same time realistic. I think he knew the offer was really for Jay (as Charlie apparently didn’t like him very much) and if Jay had actually taken the offer I don’t see Vernon lasting much longer, but he was blinded by his desire for it to be true and I think that was in character.
- Dean and the gay BDSM Club. Bwahahaha! (Oh God I am so easily amused.) Dean for such an experienced liar you suck at noticing shadiness in others.
- I love how the magicians can see right through them and the boys then respond with more bad dissembling. Boys, boys, boys.
- Tying the magician up (an escape artist, no less) then turning your backs on him. Again I say, boys. (After some internal debate I decided this was a good point ‘cause it’s just so in character and LOL worthy.)
Bad Points
- I have a suspicion that even in their old age an elderly Winchester is still going to be threatening a demon possessing a body old enough to be their granddaughter into switching their life with their brother’s. It’s the endless Winchester merry-go-round. So I doubt if you die before you get old it’s going to make much of a difference, Dean.
- Charlie’s youth came out of nowhere and wasn’t really explained. I mean I get why, but it wasn’t really explained that he had any power other than the death transference.
- “Charlie’s like my brother.” It’s okay show; we get it. You don’t actually have to spell it out and light it up in neon. *Rolls eyes.*
Points In General
- Jay killing his brother-like figure in order to save two innocents because he was never going to stop using his powers for evil. Huh. Some members of the audience (those who have eyes and ears) could see some foreshadowing in this but I’m going to be standing in the corner with my fingers in my ears singing loudly if you need me. KRIPKE IF YOU ACTUALLY DO THIS I WILL FLIP THE FUCK OUT. Dumpt-te-dum-dum-da-dum.
- Liked the break from the myth-arc (which I’m not really enjoying this season), so Ruby showing up and inferring that Sam might be enjoying hurting people was not a cause for rejoicing. :(
I really liked these two eps; with the actual jobs and a break from the angst apocalypse. Oh, show how I’ve missed you!
