Christmas is beautiful, Christmas is hard

So, Christmas is coming up. Like, really soon. Wow.

This year, three relatives and a close friend of my family died. It will be the first Christmas without my grandma and I worry there will be lots of crying. My mother still breaks down very often. Her mother was never, never ever easy on us. My grandma was very demanding and I believe a frown has been her natural facial expression since childhood. She liked to control people by making them feel guilty.
However, she loved  us in her own, weird way. She was very kind to me. Generous, attentive - I slept there so often and she even went to see all the classic Star Wars films with me in cinema when they were re-mastered. She was awesome in her very own, difficult way.
My aunt also passed away this year. Being my father's sister and his closest friend, this also went hard on us.

But as well as I know there will be crying and mourning at Christmas, I also know that it will be the time where my parents, my brother and me will cherish that we have each other. Bad events make you realize how much you need each other, don't they? We're all very, very different from each other. I don't think my brother and I will ever be friends in any way, although I am 24 and he is 28 now.  But I think we are all moving closer together and understanding each other.

I'm having fun shopping for presents, though! Giving gifts is such a beautiful thing. I'm really excited about it.
I'm working on a huge painting for my parents.

I suppose there is no need to post Every snowflake's different now. ;) Everybody's seen it and is loving it. What a happy surprise!! :]

So - have a good time shopping for presents and hold your loved ones close - whether it's your family, your lover, your friends or your pet! Christmas is for everyone!
