i realized today that hashbrowns are an extraordinarily versatile food...they should be their own food group. you can have them with eggs, make them into an omelette, put any sort of sauce on them, put vegetables on them, put beans, cheese and salsa on them...anything! i haven't tried dessert yet, but i imagine it would be similar to fried ice cream, which sounds really good right now.
i was also thinking today as i was walking into one of the bathrooms at westbrook...rooms are a very significant part of peoples' lives. for example, i can't even count how many times i've walked into the same bathroom stall in westbrook...winter winds, all-state, LYS, school of music auditions, marching band, etc etc etc...am i making any sense? so many things can go on in your life in one single little spot. even at East...the stage, the bandroom, the wood room backstage (oh god...a LOT happened here). wouldn't it be fascinating to go somehow record your life in a single room, and then go back a few years later and watch it all over again? i can distinctly remember so many things that happened backstage at East...learning the ropes for tech crew, being props crew chief for the musicals, working on scenery for all of the plays and orchestras, making friends while the people were rehearsing and messing around behind the curtains, making friends with adam, getting in fights with adam, building things, ripping things apart, painting, sewing, teaching, playing, freaking out after my senior solo, walking out on stage in the dark with my flute and just playing my heart out knowing that nobody could hear me, christmas concerts for orchestra, pit orchestra for Hello Dolly, taping down special boards for ballet recitals...so much...in just one little room. just the thought of how many times you've laughed, cried, hurt yourself, spilled paint on yourself, gotten in an argument, did something you were proud of, created something, gotten an applause for something, gotten in trouble, gossiped, lied. think about how many times you've stubbed your toe in a room. think about how many times you've walked through and were greeted by people you love. think about how many times you've taken a nap in a room because it was just that comfortable. and god, the band room! i could write for pages about what i've done in the bandroom...from being scared shitless the first day of band camp my freshman year, to hugging the floor in tears on the last day of school my senior year. *sigh* if walls could talk.......
the soundtrack for The 'Burbs is actually very well done. i wonder if they have recordings of it somewhere.
