The wildfires are terrifying - and so unpredictable! Crossing my fingers that things calm down and they can get on top of the fires ( ... )

Yeah, the unpredictability is really frustrating. It must be so much worse for people whose houses are directly at risk, and the firefighters trying to control it. Just overnight a couple of the fires i mentioned seem to have settled down a bit, but others have spread. Meanwhile Kamloops is enjoying its second day in weeks of having a relatively clear sky (although still not clear by normal standards).

Thanks for sharing your adventures in Enderby! If i pass through i'll see if i can find the pizza place!

I read an article the other day about some of these roadside diners in BC... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/bc-pit-stops-cafes-restaurants-1.6131730 My side mission on this ride will be to find somewhere that has bannock.

A comedian I follow in Oregon said he was confident that when fire reached the town next to his it would consume so much meth that it would lose interest. 😆

I think I’m more invested in your cycle escape than anything in the Olympics.

Well i hope the investment pays off! It would be a bit of an anticlimax if i cycled 20km, sprained my ankle, my bike got stolen while i was in my tent, and then the whole town caught on fire. Although then perhaps you could read about my life as a climate refugee.

“The one goddamn place where there is no fire is Kelowna, and there they're having an epic COVID-19 outbreak instead.”

Suddenly the difference between real life and the last decade of dystopian YA novels just vanishes.

I suppose a lot of human storytelling plays on common fears - fires, floods, drought, disease, war... "And then a hero emerges ( ... )
