Go to Bryce canyon after Zion. You can just a couple of hours walking around but it's really beautiful. Also, make sure you go to Mesa Verde in southern Colorado. One of my favorite national parks.

There are a lot of other great national parks in southern Utah -- Arches and Canyonlands come to mind. Depending on how much interest you have, you can stop in one or more of them.

Rocky Mountains NP near Denver is nice too. Don't know places on the other routes.

Zion and Bryce, definitely. Also the North Rim; we did it in the move from SD to MI (in August). It also has the advantage of being cooler/higher, which is a Good Thing in late summer.

I'll second Mesa Verde, though I haven't been there since I was a teenager.

Have a great trip!

Aren't there some interesting sand dunes on Lake Michigan in Indiana? Never been there, but seem to remember hearing something about that. And you should stop in Pittsburgh and see Larry, Susan and Margaret.

Are you driving with someone or by yourself?

I'm driving with a friend (Greg Griffin, if you remember him from college) until Denver. After that, I'm on my own.
