Happy Memorial Day! Today was actually pretty awesome. Let's recap the day shall we (like anyone cares.)
English - the whole class blows it over and decides to watch Lord of the Rings instead. God, I forgot how much I love this series. Not like fandom love (although I ship Merry/Pippin as slash and Sam/Frodo as heterosexual life partners.) It's different, because falling to sleep every night to these stories as a child will endear them to you in a way that would be spoilt by fandom. Plus, the movies are so visually stunning (hair, costumes, setting, camera angle, lighting), gah, my technical movie geek was squeeing inside.
And I really like Elijah Wood.
History - School assembly! No class either. I don't even remember what anyone said; it's the same speeches every year just with different names.
Earth Science - Surprise test. Okay, only a surprise for me, because having the memory of a goldfish and not writing things down amounts the fact that I NEVER know when a test is. Thankfully, I study a lot and am blessed with a reliable short term memory for facts.
Lunch - We watched end of the movie Howl's Moving Castle. It's a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film and anyone who knows what I'm talking about should ge able to recognize him as a film genius. This wasn't one of his better ones, but still beautiful in its own right. A tad confusing too, because I came at the end (Wait, the scarecrow's the prince? Why is he eating the spirit? Oh, so the fire is actually his heart? Time paradox!)
School was over then and I was actually able to get some creative writing in today. I added two more characters to my novel, I think I might have too many, but it's just so much fun to make characters. My favorite is the name making, because I'm a sucker for adding in a gajillion references.
Example:
Bruce Arctor AKA Spider Fred
Bruce = Bruce Springsteen (he courts a girl called Rosalita, Bruce Springsteen's song Rosalita, [Come Out Tonight])
Arctor, Fred = A Scanner Darkly (he's a drug dealer with a split personality, a bit like Bob Arctor AKA Fred in the book)
BA = his bachelor's degree in art (essential to the plot, because of his specialty, initials featured on belongings, and alternate personality/name not discovered 'til later)
Bruce, Spider = the myth of King Bruce and the Spider
Spider = a snooker term (he is a retired world class snooker champion)
Fred = A Christmas Carol (calls his uncle scrooge ala the character in the novel)
Spider = (to match his partner's name Eugene/Erica Fry, Erica Eugenia is a type of spider as well)
So, I may actually have some fanfic for you all soon! I know I've promised, but I'm getting caught up in my novel all the time.
When, Toria got out of class we went to the playground. Yes, the children's swings were open and we ARE children at heart. Why not? It felt glorious to be so carefree, flying high with the sun warming your face. I wish I was little again without all the worries of age. We were actually supposed to be filming for our project, but we thought screw that and just hung out around campus then in her apartment until about nine. To continue the theme of childhood there were MarioKart races and favorite old musical rewatchings (1776, possibly the most slashy thing to ever happen to America's our founding fathers. I swear at one point Adams and Jefferson were going to make out. Still, childhood memories couldn't be stained here. We're probably the only kids who ever played Continental Congress rather than house or Cowboys and Aliens. I was always Jefferson, her Franklin and Erikai Sherman.) Dinner consisted of pasta, mussels and bread with olive oil while listening to the Beatles. Then, we watched The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, which is a comedy field day for English nerds like us.

So, overall it was a welcome break from all the stress especially with the long weekend coming up which equal family angst, awkward parties and it's that time of the month.
