So, not sure if my f-list knows what Model UN does/is, but I attended one of these conferences last weekend, as the delegation of Chad.
Holy fuck it was intense! I was stuck in a room for six hours with three hundred people all aruging in their different accents about how to bring medicines to poor countries without hurting the corporations. Eventually, we passed two out of ten resolutions. You're allowed to pass notes during speeches, which is quite fun, actually. I also, learned that places like Benin and Burkina Faso are. Mari and I tried Sporcle (listing all the countries in the world) and we only missed about 50 so that was pretty good! I wasn't happy with the product of the conference, but at least I got an honorable mention in the closing ceremonies for my efforts! Out of 148 places, being one of the twelves HMs wasn't that bad!
So, as my title says there WERE a lot of Italians there. All gabbering (is that even a word? Aw, who cares, it is now) away in their strong accents and occasionally Italian. (Guys, we're doing an international conference here and unfortunately that means YOU ALL GOTTA GET A GRIP ON THE ENGLISH.)
Oh, and there was a guy who looked exactly like my head image of Atticus Finch. Complete with period clothing. I swooned.
