I am freaking seething.
I skipped lunch and left at 4 because I was so excited about The Sims 3. I ran home, installed it, created a family...and the game crashed. I restarted, played for a minute, and the game crashed again. Repeat for the past four hours.
According to the Sims3.com forums, this is a common problem. According to their own system diagnostic, my computer is perfectly fine to run the game. Which means that, despite delaying the game for MONTHS, they still released a game with some serious glitches and bugs.
If they're smart, they've got programmers working all night to get a patch up first thing in the morning; the forums are starting to turn ugly (the first 100 or so posts are "Help, please!" and the last few are "This is bullsh*t!").
People were already pissed at EA over the SecuROM controversy (and amusingly, SecuROM failed to prevent piracy since the damn thing was on torrents a couple of weeks ago), and are now feeling totally taken by the company over these crazy glitches. I've just spent $50 on a game I CANNOT PLAY.
Understandably, hundreds of thousands of fans are pissed; $50 is a pretty nice chunk of change, and apparently we've gotten a shiny new PAPERWEIGHT for it.
DIAF, EA Games.
