Wow... Just wow...

On Saturday I stopped by my folks place to help Mom with a computer problem. We got to talking about computers, and she asked me how long it had been since I bought a new computer (to clarify, she meant brand new, recent model, still in the box kind of new). I thought about it and realized it had been roughly 8 years. Since before I moved up to Bellingham. I think even before I met jwyldragon.

We talked about what I required from a computer and what type I wanted. I only have few requirements, but they're big ones, and so computers that would actually serve me well are way out of my price range. I showed Mom online what I was looking for, and she said, "Let's go get you a computer."

I was completely floored. I had just shown her the most expensive MacBook Pro on the Apple site, and she didn't even blink. We drove over to the Apple Store in Lynnwood and got a 17 inch MacBook Pro. I didn't opt for more RAM or any extras. I didn't want it to be any more expensive for her than necessary. Though the base model is no slouch. I've been playing with it all day nothing I've done has even come close to taxing it. Well, playing World of Warcraft on Ultra setting gave it a minor hitch, but nothing of note. My last laptop couldn't play it on anything other than the lowest video setting. Though I'm still going to play WoW on my desktop. At this point the only thing I need to invest in is a larger cooling pad. Preferably one not made of plastic. The Targus cooling pad I have, aside from being too small, rattles like crazy and at times causes some serious noise pollution.

Migrating my user account, documents, and software from my old laptop was a cinch. Once I plugged the cable all the way in (serious Duh moment last night) it only took about an hour to transfer over my nearly 300 gigs of stuff. I've only had to re-register a few pieces of software. Though I might reinstall CS5 as I'm now running the 64-bit version of 10.6, and it was originally installed on a 32-bit system.

I'm going to go sit on the couch and write, and not worry about being plugged in. =D
