Summary: Changmin doesn't think that this can work between them. Not in the long run.

Disclaimer: *sighs* I wish.....

We're running with the Shadows Of The Night
So baby take my hand, you'll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They'll come true in the end

You're running, your hand held tight in his as he drags you through the darkness. He is leading and though your legs are longer you are having a hard time keeping up with him. You can't seem to catch your breath...whenever you are with him.

The two of you are running in the same direction, but what you're really running towards is each other.

Down dark streets and even darker alleyways he leads you on a twisted route back to the Dbsk dorm.

None of the shops on these streets are open at this late hour. As you run past the empty windows you watch as their security lights flash, strobe-like with your speed, pale shades of blue and red and white against him and your joined hands.

Deftly, without missing a beat he avoids any streets with people on them. You've lived in Seoul all your life, but you don't know her streets like he does. His time before becoming a trainee gave him an intimate knowledge of Seoul that you'll never have.

Lost in your thoughts you're surprised when he suddenly stops and pushes you against an icy brick wall. He takes your face in a practiced grip, one hand is cold and one (the one you have been holding) is warm.

Your breath ghosts white between you, pale clouds entwining a second before your lips follow suit.

When he lets you up for air and starts fumbling for his keys you realize that you're home, at the side door. All tenants have keys to the emergency exits, but Dbsk are the only ones who ever really use them. They are useful when you need to avoid all the screaming fangirls.

Tonight you probably didn't need to.

Your fans know that Dbsk had an appearance and an after-party across town so that is where they are congregating. You and he had taken the opportunity to be alone, slipping out of the crowd and swiftly making your way back home. The others would be stuck there for hours yet.

Finally gaining entrance, you make your way to your floor and your door, smiling and nodding politely to anyone you meet on the way. They don't notice how you are always touching each other, an arm, a shoulder, a friendly hand on the back. The touches look innocent and only the two of you know that they are because you can't keep your hands to yourself.

You said - oh girl, it's a cold world
When you keep it all to yourself
I said you can't hide on the inside
All the pain you've ever felt
Ransom my heart, but baby don't look back
Cause we got nobody else

This was never something you wanted. You're pretty sure it is the same with him. When fanservice started becoming a way of life, the very idea sickened you.

You're not sure when that changed or even who started it.

In the beginning, the five of you were lonely. Living with strangers, missing your family, scared of failing. Soon you were family and that loneliness was gone. As you got older and became men that loneliness was replaced with a loneliness of a different sort.

Really, it didn't matter who started it, neither one of you fought it and you lost your loneliness in each other.

The other members knew about the two of you and if they weren't altogether approving, they accepted.

Lately though, you've been thinking.

Where can this go?

Nowhere.

The two of you were constantly in danger of ruining your careers.

Even if the two of you weren't famous you could never openly be together.

You could never marry or hold hands in public or have children together.

And while not having children would make you sad, you would hurt more for him. He loved children and you think that if no child ever got to experience having him as a father it would be a crime.

You've been thinking.

Yeah, you love him, but you love all the members. Even with everything that goes on between the two of you is the love you feel for him really any different?

You've been thinking that maybe it was time the two of you ended this. Now, while you still can.

You know that sometimes, it feels like
It's all moving way too fast
Use every alibi and words you deny
That love ain't meant to last
You can cry tough baby, it's all right
You can let me down easy, but not tonight

As the five of you entered the party tonight you had made up your mind. It was over.

Looking over at him, you see he is watching you. You know he sees what you're thinking. Your thoughts have always been clear on your face. You wish you were as adept at reading him, but his thoughts remain a mystery.

When the excitement of Dbsk's arrival at the party had died down he grabbed your hand and led you out the back door.

So now here you are. In his room, in his arms, in his bed.

Even if you wanted to stop him, you didn't have the breath.

He has taken the lead, as usual, but you flip him over because tonight you needed to be the one to set the pace.

Hovering over him, arms barely supporting you as the two of you move in harmony, you watch every flicker of expression on his face. He is never more beautiful than at times like these and you want to remember it forever.

You make sure he reaches that pinnacle before you tumble over it yourself, finally closing your eyes because he is blinding.

Moving to lay beside him you resist the urge to pull him into your arms as you normally would. You need the space between you if you're going to do what you think you must.

He doesn't reach for you either and now you know that he knows what you've been thinking.

You draw what feels like the first deep breath in hours and open your mouth to say it out loud when you feel his fingers tangling themselves with yours.

He has reached across what feels like a chasm, but in reality is only about a foot and a half of space to take your hand.

Looking over at him, you see he is watching you. Again, he takes your breath.

His face is completely open for the first time and through his tears you can finally read what he is thinking.

And now the hands of time are standin' still
Midnight angel, won't you say you will

You stare into his eyes for what feels like an eternity. Then pulling on his hand you wrap him in a tight embrace.
Smiling, you whisper, "Okay."
